2009 Sales Goals... Did you meet yours?

This is the first year where I did not. For all my companies combined my goal was to break $2M... I'll end the year at $1.89M. This is frustrating most because in 2008 I had anticipated $2.6M before the economy fell off a cliff.

I ask this question every year on here. What have you done to reflect on this year? What will you do different next year?

*Had to correct post... $1.89M not $1.98M (another $100K would have been nice though)

Seriously... does no one keep goals? Did no one make sales? This is what makes me nervous about the people on this site... I've probably done deals with about 20 YE's and had a handful of successes... but in general people on here are lazy and unorganized. They think someone is going to tell them how to make a million by doing nothing. It isn't going to fn happen so start building your $10,000 business.. then your $100,000 business.. plan... set goals... work your ass off...

    WTF!!!

With a new year approaching and business taking me places very rapidly, I have been really digging deep into what I want in business and life. I've had a vivid idea but I never clearly knew what I wanted. I was to busy trying to just "make it" that I never knew clearly why I wanted to "make it".

I think for a lot of people they don't really know what they want. You have to decided clearly what do you want and why? Write what you want down on paper and write why you want what you wrote down (no typing this, you must actually use a pen and paper).

I also believe in creating a vision board. Create a board with images of things that you desire in life or create one just for your business. It can be what cars you want, places you want to visit, freedom, love, abundance etc.. Create the vision board and look at it daily.

Look at rogercbryan, he had a goal to break $2M. Now, he said he will end the year at $1.89M. Pretty damn close. Congratulations by the way!

And my questions to rogercbryan. If you did not set the goal of breaking $2M do you think you would have hit $1.89M?

I'll take a good guess and say probably not.

I definitely didn't meet my financial goals in 09,mostly due to the economy, but I did reach a bunch of educational goals so all was not lost... 2010 is a fresh start and I plan on doubling my revenue from 09. Hats off to you Roger for making damn near 2 mil that's awesome! It sounds to me that you would've got your goals if it weren't for a bad economy.

I didn't make a whole lot in 09, but I got a boat load of practical experience, that I am now putting to good use in 2010. Right now, the website is planned to be on the side, but my goal is to work for myself 100% in 6 months while still building the site.

My sales production was down almost 60% in '09 (compared to '08), which will most likely result in my total income being less than 70% of what it was last year (the year obviously isn't over but it's unlikely anything in my pipeline will be finalized in the last 2 weeks.)

I blame some of it on the poor economy, but I think a lot of it was the fact that I transitioned back to a 100% commission structure after spending two draining years at a W-2 job (a lot of experience, not a lot of pay or opportunity as I learned.) Hopefully I can discipline myself to take advantage of the time I'll have this winter to plant even more seeds and make up some ground.

My '09 numbers look a lot like my '07 numbers, which was the first year I started keeping detailed records. For 2010 I'll have to beat my '08 numbers (my best ever) by 20% to feel satisfied.

We are still waiting for the end of the year to check if we really reach our goals.

Being in the luxury sector, we took a big hit this year. I'm hoping the retail environment will change enough to effect us in the wholesale sector next year.

Good Question! While I do strive to maximize income the setting of goals gives me something to target in on. Knowing all year I wanted to break that $2M mark for the first time with a single company helped me to make certain decisions. More importantly the decisions (good and bad) from 2009 will go a long ways towards helping me exceed my goal of $2.5M in 2010.

What were your goals? How did you track your progress towards reaching them?

Always the most important question. This year there are two answers. If you remember I started a bookstore this year which ate up almost all of my net income. When it was all said and done I'll pay taxes on about $55,000. My accountant listed actual net income at $272,000 when you include carryover inventory that was purchased in 2009 with income from other programs or listed as income from operations before the bookstore.

Had I not started the bookstore $272,000
But I did so the business will net $55,000

10-12% margins have been normal for me in 2006, 2007, and 2008.

I broke my goal of $100 a day every day for a week in online earnings through referrals. Time for 2010 and my goal of 1,000 referrals in a single day.
