    13 year old swindler

Although what he did was illegal, the story is quite inspiring. A 13-year old boy living in the UK inherited £15,000 after his mother died - within three years he was wearing designer suits, flying to france and edinburgh on 'business trips', hiring PA's and body guards and even planning to buy a private jet. He was arrested later that year of crimes accounting for around £250,000 (inspired by movie 'Catch me if you can'.

About as inspiring as Hitler, who inspired and led a large group of people to commit atrocious acts despite their ethical and moral beliefs against such acts.

I'm talking about the motivation compared to what he achieved. Obviously what he did was wrong.

The 13 year old drank vintage champaign and got escorts. Damn. I didn't even know what an escort was when I was 13.

Yeah, but we are getting lost in the same fantasy that we delve into when we examine celebrities or sports stars. The ooooh Aaahhh over the things they got to do and the wealth (or power) they were able to amass, regardless of the all important "how" they managed to do it.

"How" a person gets wealthy and/or powerful is far more important that what they do with the money. I could win the lotto and have as much or more stuff than this 13 year old had. Had this kid taken the money from his inheritance and made his wealth legitimately I would be duly impressed. But I don't give a person any credit for amassing wealth illegally, not matter how intricate the scam.

Hitler was one of the most inspirational and motivating leaders in history. Obviously what he did was wrong too.

Do 13-year-old kids selling crack on the street corner inspire you too? What's the difference between the two?

It may have been wrong, but he did what most people don't do including myself... He took action on his plans.

I implore you to take action now!

The suicide bombers on 9/11 took action; I assume you disregard their actions although they were wrong. The main thing to see is that they followed through with their plans of killing as many Americans as possible and succeeded. Your inspirational chickenjoe.

He took action on his plan in this context sounds like "Gee, drug dealers are legitimate business people as they also run organizations."

There is a line. He crossed it. And, hey, now he's suffering the consequences.

Wow. Too bad the kid couldn't have taken his smarts and created a REAL business. Maybe in 30 years he'll be doing what Frank Abagnale, the con man in Catch Me If You Can, is doing now-advising people how not to fall prey to con men. But first he'll have to go to prison. Philosophically, I'm opposed to being impressed by con men. But viscerally, I can't help but be impressed by something this intricate. He kept it going for three years despite never paying his bills or his salaries, and being arrested several times. I wonder if he'll get a royalty from the movie.
