Great tips there. I think one of the most fatal mistakes people make is not doing their research. It's so easy to get excited about an idea...but then again, ignorance is bliss until reality comes crashing down on you.
Although it's good to be enthusiastic and positive, you can't let your emotions cloud your rational judgment. If the facts don't support your hypothesis, you should scrap the idea or change it.
I've recently started a blog myself based on my own experiences and the experiences of other entrepreneurs on essential topics all entrepreneurs should keep in mind (in my sig)
What really makes me happy though is that we have a community of entrepreneurs out there looking out for each other and learning from each other. That's what makes us strong, because lets face it, we're a minority. Most people have a "job" which pretty much just stands for "Just Over Broke" There's nothing worse than living a life of predictability and habit.
A lot of good points there Floid. Dedication and Persistence are important if you want your business to success, but as you say, it can only take you so far if the business was doomed in the first place due to it's nature.
I tend to disagree with the whole Job (Just Over Broke) comment though. I'm an entrepreneur AND I work, even if that does contradict with the definition. I work for Saint-Gobain (look it up on thr stock exchange) a top 100 company and I earn a lot of my money from this job. But I also have my own business interests outside of work.
It's great if you have the confidence to go it along and stick to the man and all that but you would be an idiot to give up a well paid job. That is the same as abandoning an area of your business that is making a lot of profit.
I don't think its a set rule that you have to be unemployed/self-employed to be a successful businessman/ entrepreneur.
That's a good point Grizzly. I think the point I'm making with the "Just Over Broke" mantra is for those people who get comfortable with only a job. They want to do more, but don't.
I agree though, it's not a set rule that you have to be unemployed or self-employed. After all, idealism is nice, but practicality is essentialA lot of entrepreneurs I know were working a job before their businesses really took off.
thanks for the great link
