Smile New, AMBITIOUS young man, saying hi.

    Hello all,
My name is Truman. I am 17 years old, and a senior in HS in Southern California. As long as I can remember, I have been thinking of small ideas, ways to improve things, and little useful products. Then, about 2 years ago, I started thinking of website ideas. I have since briefly ran a tech blog, am currently running a small clothing site, and am building a site that I won't give details on yet, but that I hope to sell on this site soon for a tidy profit. So, let me get to the point- why I'm here. Well, the first big goal in life that I'd like to accomplish is to be making 300k+/year by the time i'm 25. I realize that the only way to be truly successful, while still loving your job, is to work for yourself. (Now I know there are some flukes out there (pro athletes, prop traders, etc, but you know what I mean!)). I also know that good ideas need startup money. I am wondering how I should go about working, while still waiting to think up that big idea that will, hopefully, be my ticket to a retirement by 30 (while still overseeing my company.) Should I just pick a really broad major in college (stall)? My ideal, dream life: think of a really, really good idea while in college (even better if while in Junior College, so I don't have to worry about picking a major!), and be just SET. Then, while not worrying about the stresses of not having an ample and disposable income, I plan to start churning out ideas. One will not be enough. I really am the most ambitious person I know. I want to be on top, and I can't wait until the day comes where I see an old highschool classmate, and offer them a dream job at one of my own companies. I am leaning towards a security firm to start off. I think that from there I could really expand in a 'revolutionary' way. There is ALWAYS something new and crazy coming out in security. Notice, I'm not specific in what type of security firm i'd like to manage. That's because I'm really not sure yet. I think it would really be neat to own a firm with several branches (private, personal, home, business, city, etc.) Now, I know what you may be thinking- if i want a career in security, it would be best to start out in the armed forces, and I would... but for reasons mentioned in the P.S. below, I would rather not. What do you all think? Any suggestions? Words of encouragement? Social contacts? Connections? Just wanna say hi?

P.S.: I think you should all get a feel for my outlook on wealth, to get a better understanding of me as a person. I feel that it will help you, when trying to help me! Here it is: I want to be wealthy while i'm young. Too many people don't retire until their 50s! Sure, it's great to provide a nice home and fun things for your family, but I would also like to experience the awesome, adventurous things that, well, that people only want when they are young, and can only afford if they're successful!
(This is why I would rather not start out in the armed forces (to get a base for a security firm.))

Anyway, that's me. PM if you'd like, or just reply!

    Inspiration and Perspiration

    Truman,

You have probably heard that it takes 10% Inspiration and 90% Perspiration. It also takes quite a bit of luck, being in the right place at the right time, and understanding when to bob or when to weave.

Keep looking under every rock and look for those opportunities. Even though you may think 50 is old, one day it will feel young compared to someone in their 80's.

Take it from someone who's been there. You must know when to jump when those opportunities present themselves. Follow your gut and your dreams.

dude, tht was amazing... well i am too young to advice u... but as i have similar goals i would just like to share with you my views... well recently after readin few great books and doing a bit of TOK (theory of knowledge), my way of thinkin has completely changed... okay what i was sayin is that "your thoughts become things" so whatsoever you will think, and dream, of will happen wid you. It has been proved by PHDs and Metaphysicians (people with highest degree). So your present is what you have thought in past and your future will be what you will think in present... so the point is be insane optimist... and i recently read in news article that all the lucky people in ths world are lucky coz thy believe thy are lucky so u have the power to creat your own luck all u need to do is believe it tht u are lucky... and try to look at "That's the spirit" in youtube its a great inspirational vid... nuthin is impossible... we youth need to change the current world situations

If you think that you want to start a security firm then I would recommend that you start researching everything there is to know about that area as soon as you can. You need to find out what speciality of security is in highest demand and where it is in demand. Security companies often get hired out of reputation that they have and you will not get any high profile clients (if you want to be bodyguards or guard big companys) until you establish this reputation.
That will probably be your highest problem at the moment. The element of "luck" that might enter this equation is if you find one or two people that have a military background that are interested in working with you.

Have you had any other ideas?

Nice to see another young person interested in web site building!

I'm 15 and I'm currently searching for the right idea for a website myself.

    So any advice is welcome!
