    My First Startup

    Hi Everyone:

I am still a student at a Canadian university and am involved in my first true start-up company, and am experiencing the "daily grind" - the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.

The past few years I had a great internship with a large financial company with really amazing pay, a company car and a full-time job basically locked up. This summer, I decided to reject their offer and go off on my own with a few partners - I took the leap of faith.

I want to hear other stories of young entrepreneurs doing the same thing, doing something different than all of their friends, maybe feeling like a bit of an outcast, but following a dream. What are you doing? What are you working on? Are you an entrepreneur at heart?

Congrats on following your dreams! I'm also looking to follow my dreams and stop doing what I went to school. Although, my job isn't anywhere near as spectacular as the one you refused. Good luck to you.
BTW. What did you and your partners start up?

    My Business

I'm currently a partner in a Marketing/Production company with a very large project in development that is set to launch in a few months. As I shape my idea of an ideal business on a daily basis I continually refine my value proposition to my customers. I want to provide the best user experience in a new way but how do you get people to change from what their currently using?

I'm realizing slowly that good products don't matter, good products get overlooked, good products aren't good enough. The products/services that are truly disruptive in the market are those that are great, those that are remarkable (worth talking about). A good question I keep asking myself is: Will the people dissatisfied with what they're using now embrace this, and will they tell the large number of unsatisfied people to go buy it right away? It's not just about attracting the attention of those consumers dissatisfied with what they're currently getting, its about creating WOM among this group so that your idea spreads, so that those people who have influence are sharing your idea with others.

Are you developing an idea worth sharing?

    Hi ejansse2

Welcome to YE - sounds agreat idea - also LOTS of good advice here

How are you with understanding finance? Can I suggest a book that will aid you greatly - The Richest Man in Babylon

Or have you read Rich Dad Poor Dad yet?

Have added you to my buddy list if that is ok with you?

Bill, my understanding of finance is decent but not comprehensive at this point. I have read Rich Dad Poor Dad way back in the day but I have not yet read The Richest Man in Babylon - good read?

'Buddy List' is a feature I'm not yet familiar with as I'm a very new member - but sure sounds great!
