Just discovered this site!

Hello everyone, my name is Adam, I am currently living in DeKalb, Illinois. I am working on a Masters degree, but am spending more time thinking about possible business ventures. I, like many of you am surrounded by people who believe the only path is to finish school and immediately begin working for someone else. They are constantly telling me it is foolish to try and start my own business, but as this has been a dream of mine for many years, I am going to go for it and prove them wrong.

I am the type of person that easily gets excited about any venture with potential. If you have some ideas or would like someone to brainstorm with I would be more than happy to talk with you!

Hi Adam,

Welcome to the board! It is a pleasure to have you on. I did some of my schooling in New York in Computer Science/Business. I've been an entrepreneur since around 1992. During my school years I had a decent job, but quickly learned that it would take more than a job to live comfortably, so I took a small risk, left my comfort zone of New York and relocated to California.

I would have never learned the new things that I learned if I had not made my move. I really enjoyed the learning at school, but I also realized that schools on their own, are nothing more than business structures, with class materials as their products and students as their clients. Anything that I was learning at the class was also being thought to thousands of other students. Sometimes what really set you apart from your peers is doing some extra work. I remembered when I first landed my first big job. All the things that I was doing there, were mostly things that I had learned on the side.

I love learning about new ventures. I generally get 2-3 new ideas weekly and have been documenting them since 1999.

Again, welcome, and I hope that you get to find some great connections here! It would be nice to know what it is that you are majoring in.

lol

I think your friends are right.

You have to be a little crazy to mess around with private equity. Entrepreneurs definitely don't have the best gig in the world and to think otherwise is irrational. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

You see...I'm pretty sure everyone here has some serious pathology going on, and if you're one of us, we're happy for you to join the loony bin. I'm sure the mods will be sending you a complementary straight jacket.

Heh, perhaps I am a little bit crazy, but that comes with ambition and a desire to NOT be yet another lemming walking the earth slaving for someone else in a job they don't enjoy.

My major is computer music and new media technology. My undergraduate degree was music liberal arts.
