    I hate 9 to 5

    Hello!

This is my first venture into online forums. I worked a 9 to 5 for all of 3 months, got fired, and never want to go back to that lifestyle.

I'm going to take responsibility for my own future and start an internet marketing business.

I specialize in interviews because of my journalism background, so I'll use that skill to help other entrepreneurs market their business.

    Good luck to everybody here!

lol sure you may have 9-5, but most entrepreneurs will be working 9-5 or longer for themselves.

Working 9-5 isnt bad if your the boss. I do and i enjoy going to work.

    Hello and Welcome.

I worked a 9-5'er and many hours longer than that for nearly a dozen years. Even though when I left to go out on my own I was happy, I have to say in retrospect it wasn't so bad. I was lucky to work for a small independent business owner. I credit that experience with all that I know about the business of business (and the success and growth I have experienced in my own)- providing value and high quality to customers; target marketing; obtaining referrals; creating profitable exit strategies; being your own worst competition; knowing when to say no; branding and most importantly structure. People can say what they want about 9-5 jobs but they do have checks and balances in place to some respect and there is structure.

As your own boss you have to teach yourself....EVERYTHING. Some is instinctive, yes. Other things are a huge learning curve and at some point (esp if you don't have disposable income or a significant amount of start up capital 9-12 mos reserve) the business of business just may become your business. You will be so tied up with trying to figure out the terms and logistics and trying to make it all work that you won't even have time to market and sell the product or service you are supposed to be offering in the first place. Yes, if you make it to the top, that is nice. But then if you grow to that point won't somebody else in fact be working a 9-5'er for you? I certainly would not want the person that worked with me to have that 9-5'er attitude about their job. So be grateful for the experience. And as you go on your own do be optimistic about your potential and what the future holds, but RUN TO something...NOT FROM something, otherwise you will be spinning wheels and no happier than where you were in the job that you held for those 3 mos. Just my humble opinion. I wish you well in your endeavors regardless.

So you don't like 9-5, but you're on an entrepreneur forum where most self-employed people work double those hours when starting a business?

Just letting you know what you're in for

Or you could start young like me, I am still in college and hopefully will never be forced to get a 9 to 5.

No one likes a nine to five, but it's a lot better if you're your own boss haha. Not to mention the potential earnings of each can drastically be different.

    I'm in college too

My statement was in reference to the fact that being a full time, 9-5 employee suggests that you work 40hrs/wk and if the hours are killing you, not the work itself, then maybe entrepreneurship isn't for you.

In my situation, I'm up about 18hrs/day. If you multiply that by 5, that's 90/hrs in a standard work week. Then, I spend 12 of those hours actually in class. That leaves me with 78 that I am awake during the week and not in class. Let's minus 15hrs/wk (3hrs/day) for misc. (and social) activities and non-business related traveling, that leaves me with 63 hours that I'm "work"ing on building my business(es). That's in 5 days. Then, when you add in working on the weekends, or nights staying up late, or classes I decide not to attend, I near 80hrs/wk, if not more (considering I write down plans, ideas, etc. while actually in classes).

Anyways, if I worked 9-5 in a day, I would go crazy thinking that I haven't done enough.

    You'll see what I mean

Good luck to you! Any help I can offer you I am here. Shoot me a PM on what you need and I'll see what I can do.

Since starting my business 7 months ago and going at it full force, building my team, doing the biz plan, shooting my video and now selling my product has taken a lot of stick-to-itiveness, courage and patience. Everything good takes time and building a great business takes courage and patience, otherwise everyone would do it, right! So don't give up and keep on truckin'. You'll get there.

LOL, could not agree more, I have never worked so many hours in my life until I started my own business. But I love it and it is mine and I am workingf for myself and I could not ask for anything more. Well, maybe just a little.

Good luck with your new venture.
