Hi everyone,
I live in Los Angeles and my husband and I run a successful business growing coral and selling fish and reef supplies to saltwater hobbyists. I was a computer science major and my husband business administration. After five years of working for other people, we took his passion for saltwater aquariums and turned it into a business. We started shipping out of our garage and a year later opened a retail store. And most of our customers find us online thru google and hobby forums. We also ship to hobbyists all over the US.
Anyways, I'm pretty good at web marketing and building websites. So now I want to start a new business with my passion for children's books. I've written several children's stories for my sons, ages 3.5 and 2. I've read alot about the difficulty of finding a publisher and getting published. While I'm not one to shy away from difficult tasks, I decided the better idea is to build my children's book into an iPad/iPhone app. And then self publish in Apple's ebook store. And then perhaps find a paper book publisher later.
My kids love the iPad. If you haven't seen children's books and game apps on the iPad, it's amazing. And very intuitive very kids. Some of the books even read aloud and highlight words read.
What have I done thus far? So I have my first story. I'm partnering with my sister because she's a really good editor and brainstormer, and an attorney. I've hired an illustrator. Character illustrations are so funny. (I could look at them all day.) And I bought my first ever Mac to write the app. I get it tomorrow. I'm very excited about learning how to build apps.
