Hi from Chicago
Hey everyone,

I my name is Shad and I am in the midst of researching and writing a business plan to open a gourmet market/grocery store.

I have a strong grocery/dairy/frozen/produce retail experience and for the last 7 years I have worked on the manufacturer and broker side of the food business.

My goal is to have a neighborhood type market with a focus on customer service, gourmet prepared foods, specialty bakery, full service meat, organic and local produce, organic/imported specialty grocery, organic dairy/frozen and a gourmet cheese shop. As well as diverse selection of wine and beers. Somewhere between a Trade Joe's and Whole Foods.

If there are any other grocery store owners on the forum I look forward to discussing your experiences with you. Any advice is welcome!

Initially in the near west burbs where I live (LaGrange area) but the market is well served and property with parking is at a premium already it appears. But its isn't ruled out until I talk to a realtor. More than likely looking in the Lemont/Homer Glen area.

My goals are to be a neighborhood type place hopefully near a train station that I can maximize the high foot traffic.

Already in the works thanks, with more of a focus on prepared foods and deli for the service side and gourmet, import, and organics for the grocery side I can enjoy a much healthier margin...in theory of course
