Hello,
My name is Phil. I am 24 years old and I am trying to persue the entrepreneurial(is that a word?) life style. For starters, my first job was washing dishes in a local supper club. from there i quickly advanced, and by the age of 21 I was second in command (the souix chef) for a local chef looking to make leaps and bounds with his restaurant/catering business. After losing grib on his alcoholism, the restaurant failed, and i was forced to change locations. After ONE year, AND leaving to explore other career opportunities, the previous company called me to take the position of head chef. I walked into a restaurant that was losing (and had already been losing for over a year) $10,000 per month. So my task was very clear; cut the costs, and get this place to AT LEAST break even! In the 5 months I was head chef before being let go (for being unsuccessful at a "task to large for my experience") I was able to litterally cut the losses in half. I was at -$5000 for the month and I was EXTATIC. Then, the "powers that be" decided to cut the businesses' open hours in half, and severly cut staff/Wages. I followed suit and made the adjustments on the food order, but our cost went back up to $7000 for the next month. Thus resulting in my termination. Now need I say that that month we also had our absolute worst month in sales, even WITH the cut in staff, hours, WAGES, and inventory.
Anyways, I digress, SO here I am, unemployed, bored out of my gord, and seeking desperately to find that PERFECT business idea that I can run from my home. Countless hours on google search (along with others) have lead me to entrepreneur.com, HERE, and NOWHERE. So here I am seeking some SERIOUS advice. I have passions, and I am optomistic. BUT I AM A REALIST. And by that I mean that TOOO many of these "top 10 business ideas for 2010-11-etc.." are all balloons, or bubbles, and are not only extremely diluted at this point, but especially in my area, far from in demand, or even practical for my geographical area, (which is SW Wisconsin BTW) and ready to POP! They are just TRENDS. anyways. I am here to toss ideas back and forth, speculate, and hopefully FINALLY land that great idea. In a way, im asking you people, is there something that you are doing, that you really LOVE, is super EASY/CHEAP to start, that your not protecting with your life, that you wouldn't mind mentoring/sharing with someone else who just wants a piece of the pie, rather than to cut everyone else's throats? Any ideas and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for reading about ME.
