Hello from London

Hi all,

My name is Tom I am from London.

I currently run a web design company called pureinfinty.co.uk (site not up at the moment as I dont have time to complete it ).
The languages that I write in are:
HTML, JavaScript, CSS, VB, VbScript, DHTML, ASP, PHP (not much), Started .NET, C#, SQL, PLSQL, TSQL, Stored Procedures, Triggers (Both SQL and Oracle)
Databases:
SQL Server 6.5, 7.0, 2000, 2005;
Oracle 8i, 9, 10, 10g;
Access 97, 2000, 2003;
MySQL (again not much)
Platforms: IIS 5, 5.1, 6, Windows Server 2000, 2003

I also have just launched www.carclick.co.uk which has been running for about 1 month now and so been spending most time on promoting that.

I also own a UK website directory www.inneedof.co.uk which has approx 15,000 websites from all over the UK.

In the pipe line I have a number of other projects coming up.
www.chocolatedirect.co.uk - an interface to search a number of affiliate sites (around 10) for chocolate.
www.cheapfilms.co.uk - again another affiliate site and possibly my own Vids/DVDS selling.
(there are a couple more but these are a bit hush, hush at the moment).

Hope to read up on peoples experiences and ventures and also to provide any help I can.

Tom

Is it difficult to learn? I am thinking of learning them as well as most of the webpage editor generate a lot of unneccesary codes. But hand coding will be a tough challenge for people like me, who are totally "naive" to computer. I am graduate from biomedical background. I don't know if it is possible.

I have to say "Anything is Possible if you work at it."

The best way that I find learning a new language is to jump in at the deep end. eg. go in straight away and design a website by using raw code and not using any of the WYSIWYG programs.

The hardest part is to really decide on what language you want to learn.
I would say if you are wanting to learn web design I would start by start looking at www.w3schools.com, which has loads of tutorials for HTML, JavaScript (the main infrastrutre of a webpage), then once you have built a site using HTML, JavaScript you would then look into using Dynamic Content (retrieving data from a Database or XML source).

Once you are looking to get into dynamic content you need to decide the path you want to go eg. Microsoft (asp, asp.net (need visual studio 2005)) or OpenSource (php).

But to help you getting started

Code:
<!DOCTYPE (you would need to find which is best for your site.)>

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>This is what appears in the blue bar at the top eg. Young Entrepreneur Forums</TITLE>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
<meta name="description" content="description of your site">
<meta name="keywords" content="List of keywords for your site">
<META name="Robots" content="INDEX,FOLLOW">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
</HEAD
<BODY>
This is where you we content goes
</BODY>
</HTML>
I would also read a view books by Jakob Nielsen. These are not code but helps with the design and layouts of websites with do's and dont's of web design.
