Hello from a 14 year old dreamer.

Well I am 14 years old and I have joined this community to get insider tips and learn how to run a business successfully. My latest goal is to start a company, which specializes in food stands and carts. I live in Chicago and want to know if you believe this is a good idea. I currently have no funds to begin this endeavor and startup costs I believe would be around 10,000 dollars for a couple of carts. I need feedback on the concept and maybe even a few generous donations >.> lol.

    Hello roy8967,
Its great to see your so young and already thinking about setting up a business, although not many investors would put up that much money in a fresh startup company run by someone so young. I'm not sure what the law say in the state you live in in the US, but I believe your also to young to take on full legal responsibility for a company. I would recommend you put your great ideas to investors in Chicago who would be willing in some kind of partnership and help set up your business.

Although its great to see your so young, and already so creative in business ideas, just imagine what you'll be like when your 18-19. If your interested, I would love to help work with you, on the whole web side of your new business (if you able to get the funds for the setup) my company is able to develop great website and web based applications, (also mobile phone & social networking applications) If your interested please forward me your email address,

Good luck with the new business!

    Regards,
    Adam

    Roy8697,

Just a heads up that there is no "legal" age to begin your own business. The previous poster is correct that you will need some help from your parents but it's not impossible. If you were considering a website I'd say give our office a call and take advantage of our consultation but since you are considering a physical location you would be wise to sit down, along with your parents, with an attorney that specializes in intellectual property or look up your local SBA chapter for other information.

    Good luck to you!

    Roy,

Congratulation for having the dream, and the courage to tell the world about it.

Start taking actions, albeit small, and slowly but sure you're paving your own way to success. It started with desire, and you've got it.

    Good luck!

That's how I was at your age. If you're passionate about it you will be able to do it. Heck, even if you fail who cares? My first couple businesses weren't very successful. You'll have your whole life to start another one, which will be stronger than the first.

I think a great business opp for young people is a party rental business. I wanted to start one when I was 15, but didn't have the cash. A couple thousand will get you in business. The business also has very low fixed cost. If you even want to go a cheaper route, maybe buy an ice cream cart for people to rent out. Do a quick search online for one and I'm sure you'll find prices. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.

Keep up the great work and stay motivated. When you get a little older you will see friends doing the "typical" teen activities. Just remember... "If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary." Don't let anyone knock your dreams for ANY reason. If you want it, go get it.

Recently I have been reviewing and I thought about a couple other businesses, maybe I could start a couple of affiliate marketing sites which review a product and compare them to other leading products. Anthony I thought about the business idea that you had when you were 15 and it seems to be a perfect idea. I could link that with my hotdog business and set up shop in a warehouse where my employees could load up moonbounces and restock on hotdog supplies :] Another idea I have is to start a t shirt company, it seems like the perfect business and all you really need is an iron, special paper, shirt, and a printer. My last idea lol is to start a radio station from my bedroom, Im also a dj and music is kind of my thing. I would also like to thank everyone for the advice and warm welcomes. Hope to get some more feedback from you guys :]

I've thought about a t-shirt business as well. There is a lot of competition out there! I have an idea that would be a great niche. Now that I'm thinking about it again I might just do it! Thanks for the reminder.
