    Finally registered!

Hey guys, I'm glad to have found a web site this great, it seems to be full of brilliant people. To start off, I am a 19 year old kid who is in college, but i don't really know why. I don't really aspire to be employed, but instead I have dreams of being a self made investor/entrepreneur. I guess its good to have a degree as a back up though, so I'm pushing myself through college. Right now I'm starting to work on creating a web site and making it blow up with visits so I can see what its really like to make my own money through my ideas and capabilities. The only problem is Im having a tough time trying to learn dreamweaver, and I'm not too good at photoshop either... I think are both kinda required for what I'm wanting to do. Anyway, I was just hoping some people could share their stories of how they got started as being a young entrepreneur and where they are now.

    thanks guys

You only get better with experience on different projects. My first web site looks like #$!@ compared to my latest web site. Play with all of the Photoshop tools. Do some tutorials that you can find online.

    Thanks guys!
I go to oregon state university. I just bought a book on learning CSS so that I can work with adobe dreamweaver a little better. How hard do you guys think it is to make a page thats able to generate a good 200 bucks a month? Is it an attainable goal for a college kid?

Welcome to YE. Glad to have you aboard.

First tip: don't use dreamweaver. Hand coding is the best way to build a site. You learn the structure of your site more intimately, and you can avoid a lot of the bloat that dreamweaver adds to the coding.

I was skeptical about hand coding at first, but after doing it for a little bit, I couldn't imagine building a site any other way.

I don't consider myself that creative or artistic at all, but I can confidently say that the more you design, the better you will get at it and the easier it will be for you to pick up design techniques and trends. My advice to you is to work at designing, hand code and practice. You will get better and better each time you try to design.

Oh, and luckily extensive photoshop skill isn't really required as much as it used to be. Look at the logos for some successful .coms: flickr, google, yahoo, YouTube--the logos are not that complex. So don't worry if you aren't a photoshop ninja. A little bit of learned and practiced creativity will take you a lot further.

What type of site are you looking to run?

I, like mthomas, would recommend that you stay away from dreamweaver. I'm also curious as to what kind of site you're trying to start.

Nothing is out of reach, even if you're young. I started my first company as a teenager and I did quite well. You just have to have the determination and drive to make it happen! My latest venture is a website that I began developing three years ago as a university student. If you want to develop a complex website like I did with GarageEntrepreneurs.com it takes a lot of capital (way more than I had anticipated) and time, especially with testing and debugging. If you're planning something more simple, it won't be as intense but there will still be many challenges and you need a solid plan in place to reach your goals.

Best of luck! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Yes, if you have a decent idea, I am not very familiar with creating websites that will generate a few hundred dollars. However, me and one of my partners have been developing a website for around 6 months now, by developing I mean pen and paper, research etc.. hopefully it will become very profitable

One thing I may suggest is try to get something made or find a pre-made template. Unless you really want to learn how to build websites it may be more worthwhile to spend a couple hundred and get something made.

Anyways, I am also in college, just keep in mind you are going to have adapt your priorities, which in my case have become 10% college, and 90% business.
