Wink Enter The Apprentice

Hello everyone, Im sure i dont need to inform you that im an aspiring entrepreneur, I live in the Middle east and am on the verge of starting up a business however i dont really have anything in mind. The primary reason Im on this site is to get ideas from everyone who knws anything about anything,for I firmly believe the UAE (country which i live in) is bascially run on idea provided by westerners who bring concepts from the west and implement them here, the concepts may not even be their's in all honesty but copied from some multinational firm based in the United States or the UK, and because it has been sucessful there,judging from the social growth and business infrastructure,economy etc they are succesful with it here. E-Business has come to mind a lot of times but I feel I want to do something more substantial, Im open to suggestions or partnerships.

Sincerely

Welcome to the forums!

UAE = United Arab Emirates?

Yeah there's definately opportunity in simply copying a business running in the US or UK which aren't currently operating in your country.

I'm from Australia and I'd say we're in the same situation over here.

Yeah we seem to be up there in regards to politics and way of life etc, but business and especially web business still has a lot of opportunity in simply copying successful US or UK based examples.

I think the major reason is that our Internet plans and bandwidth are ridiculous compared with what other developed countries have.

e.g. Australia has only just had plans greater than 1.5mbps introduced in cities (I think some plans offer 8mbps now). But I'm currently 4 hours south of Sydney which isn't very far away from the action, and yet we're on a 512kbps plan with a 20GB download cap at AUD$50 a month.

And the best we can get here is 1.5mbps for AUD$70 per month.

So I think the cost of broadband and major lack of knowledge about how profitable a web-based business can be has put us behind.

Oh well, all the more opportunities for those in the know

Does anyone know of a website which lists current US/UK successful, or promising businesses (both online and offline)?

I know from reading Yaro's entrepreneur blog that his online editing business started when he saw the success of a similar US based business and simply did the same thing here.

cheers
nathan
