25 and still don't know what to do for the rest of my life.

    Hello

Feel free to skip down to the bold print if your not interested in all the banter.

I just happened to find these forums while looking for info on starting a gaming center. So a little about myself I started college right after high school with ideas of becoming a website designer. Sadly the classes required you to create the art for the websites and it turns out that wasn't my strong suit. I tried to explain to them that's what google was for but they didn't buy it. So I decided to take up graphic arts. You know making T-Shirts and bumper stickers on the beach right. Well that also didn't go over very well. I don't know why everyone thinks its so important to be able to pick up a pencil and draw something. I'm happy if others can read my hand writing.

So 40k in student loans and no degree I still had no idea what I wanted to do. I moved back in with mom and dad and spent the next 2 years paying off student loans by working in Customer Service and Sales for the cell phone industry. That's where I have been ever since.

On the up side I got out of my folks house and got married to an amazing woman who also thinks colleges our high class thieves and started moving around the US. Mostly in the South East Florida, Georgia, S and N Carolina.

Its been a lot of fun but recently I've lost all my motivation for working in the cell phone industry. I've worked at Version, Alltel, and Sprint. Its high stress work where you sit around all day convening people that its their fault that their bill is so high when really the industry is geared to make it happen to anyone that doesn't keep track of their usage.

I make about 30k a year and over the last 6 months I've been trying to find higher pay because for one we are not able to save any money and it seems like we are putting more and more on our credit cards. It hasn't been going well so I have decided to look into running my own business.

I've been looking for some sample business plans to help me get started so if you have one please email it to bosschase at gmail. I've been putting all my ideas down on paper looking into the cost of the hardware and software but I need some help with the following.

Where do I go to find out how much money I need to own a business aside from the physical. Like owning the name copy rights permits and licenses.
I'm just trying to get to the point where I can say I own X company.

How do I know what permits or licenses I need?

How do you get funding? I'm leaning really hard towards theft or drug dealing. If I worked as much overtime as allowed by law I would not make enough money to pay rent on a building let alone anything else.

Thanks so much for all the help. I think I need to talk to the chamber of commerce to get all these answers but its 2am and they are closed and i'm really in a chatty mood tonight

    See you on the forums.

I get the feeling that you are not really ready to give it all to one thing? That would be the problem you should solve.

To answer the question; you should do something you think is fun and that will make you an okay sum of money. Something internet related would be in your interest.

hi! yeah man I feel where you're coming from.
obviously it's very important for all of us to find meaning in life...and I it doesn't sound like entrepreneurship is the right answer for you..

it's a lot of hard work, it's very uncertain that you're gonna make money..and most importantly, internet/software entrepreneurs are nerds. they're not the sociable types. they like to distance them selves from others and work on their own thing. you don't sound like that kind of person. just try to imagine your self sitting in front of a computer all day, thinking of some dead set geek shit like web analytics and flash banners.

you'd probably do much better at learning a trade..like home theater system installations and then breaking out on your own to set up some sort of an upscale home theater business...do you see what I'm getting at?

try to get into something that's not geeky (i.e. internet/software), something that pays well (i.e. a trade), gives you a degree of freedom (unlike an office job) and puts you in a client facing role.

To answer the question a Corp. $1000
but that means you have a corp. no income. no building or equipment. no website. no anything just a corp seal and some worthless shares. Good for protection but you need to have things to lose before you protect them and then you need to risk them in order for the protection to work.
So what I would do is realize that you are on a path now where you know the 40 40 40 is not for you. So keep your job. BUT start doing what you love to do for 4 hours a week and then think WHAT CAN I DO TO GET PAID DOING THIS. The hardest part for many ppl is even figuring out what they love. Most people love something but feel that its so far out of reach that they will pretend they dont even like it. So write down everything you want from new socks to a Ferrari and keep it by your bed. See what you reaaaallllly want and find out how to get paid doing what you love. GOOD LUCK. I am also 25 and I have been in business for 12 years, but never did a thing i enjoyed. 6 months ago I decided to change and things are going faster than ever because I love it.

I rec. that you try to Buy a business. you save the start up hasssle. The owner will train you . the managmnet will stay. the investors have p+ls to look at and that will be easier to get funding. it will cost you like 10 - 20k to get corp, business plans, CFP, lender subs, but if you have a good income or good credit or both or neither there is a way to do it and that is the reason you need to love it, It will be hard. But it will be easier than 40 40 40

Thanks for the advice. I know most buusiness fail and thats why i'm getting so much negitave feedback but i'm going for it. I know what I enjoy doing and I know that there are many people that are doing the same things and getting paid for it.

I'm haven't been putting down things i want but I have been keeping a list of things I need for my business. I don't plan to make it happn soon but within the next 5+ years. I'm just now in the starting stages of my planning so I have a really long way to go.

Everyone has different things that they like and if you think creating webpages or graphics is for neards thats fine. I'm happy you think that was so that I can sell them to you when you need them. I just keep getting a strong vibe from this thread like every one is trying to push me away from my goals and telling me to just keep my job.

I'm not trying to find out if I should open a business right now. I'm just trying to get advised and help planning. I'm years away from asking the questions that you guys have been answering.

I'm just starting out so try not to shoot me down I havent even got off the couch yet.
