What do you think the key to staying "fixed" is?

What is the key to staying not just disciplined, and not just focused, but fixed on your goals is?

For me, it is the ability to say no. I establish a plan and anything outside that plan I must say no. Do not confuse this with being close-minded, as the plan has some flexibility but not enough for me to veer off course.

I carry a notebook page in my pocket with the steps towards my goals.
After I accomplish some of them I rewrite it on a new one and add new ideas.
Then look at it whenever I have a moment.
    Simple but works for me.

I think that's good that you stick to your plan and no matter what comes up you say no. What works for me though, is writing down my goals and a plan on how to achieve that goal. However I'm always open to the idea of something coming along the way that would help me reach that same goal in an easier or better way. As long as my goal is the main focus then I can change my path and direction on how to achieve that goal if it makes more sense.

Prioritizing! set out a clear cut plan on what you want to do, re arrange them according to urgency, then set priorities. The hardest part of all this is to stick to the priorities.
Setting deadlines on these priorities is a good way to ensure you remain focused on your goal.

Agreed! In addition, what I do is stay away from reading/watching other people's stuff that I know may add/create more distractions for me in trying to stick to my plans. Of course, I regularly update my goals and have things in check to make sure I am still on my original vision. However, as much as I can, I don't want others' opinion to influence me so much to the point that I get frustrated with myself and eventually lose sight of things planned.

    Cheers,
    Emma

You are right about constantly reviewing your goals..it goes a long way to ensuring you stay on track.
I like to have mini meetings with my self once in a while. I keep tabs on what i have accomplished and compare it with my initial plan. I then check out where I veered off and what I can do to change that and become better...

I think we all agree that having a visual element helps us tremendously in staying "fixed". So, in my opinion, writing down goals and logging every move is fundamental.

I use Google calendar to leave very personal messages to myself set to go off at future dates.

For example - July 1, 2012 - Title: You Promised Yourself

You promised yourself that on this date you would set aside time to review your goals and see if you were still on track for accomplishing them. You know that if you don't get reminders like this one, you will get off track and go back to your old habits. Keep this promise to yourself and review those goals. Rewrite them in a new document from memory. If you can't write them down clearly from memory then you haven't spent enough time studying your own goals. Keep your promise to yourself.

I know that sounds crazy but it works for me. Otherwise, I find myself getting too far sidetracked. I tend to let my old habits push the new ones out of my mind and lose focus on what I set off to accomplish. I need to remind myself in ways where it catches me off guard. I tried the visual reminders like tacking things on my cork board or white board or screen saver. After a month, you become blind to those things. You get too used to seeing them all the time. They lose their motivation power. Try my system if you use Google for your email. You will surprise yourself.

First set you goals and make deadlines for them and then strictly follow this. When one goal is accomplished then make others and give priority to them according to their importance.
