Well first think of a product or service that is required in various countries worldwide. That should be the starting point. Also note only online products can be sold globally from the beginning itself. If you want a more traditional business setup, initially you should concentrate on a single market and then expand.

In more general terms, when considering taking a company global i believe it is best to create a foundation of local users to help promote and spread the growth of your company. Think of your company as a tree; you need to root your company first so that it has the potential to grow. By building a following of A-Listers (foundation users), you can then expand your users base by engaging/retaining your B-Listers (new users) and attract the C-Listers (potential users).
