Thumbs up Burning The Boats: A Tip For Success

In ancient battles, Alexander the Great had a habit of burning boats when battling in foreign lands. The habit of burning boats would make it concrete into the minds of him and his warriors that there is no other way out than to win this battle. If they didn’t win the battle there would be no retreating to safety, they would either die or succeed. In other words, Alexander and his army would rather die fighting in honor than to leave the battlefield in shame.

How does this relate to Present day life?

Thre are many situations in life when things get tough, and the tendency in these moments is to want to back down and go back into the comfort zone of our past and become happy with mediocrity. Being content with mediocrity and an average lifestyle is what is usually referred to as the ‘Fear of Success’. The Fear of Success consists of being uncomfortable with achieving more than the norm and venturing off into the unknown…and everything that goes with this. Since the subconscious mind often associates safety with staying the same, it becomes more appealing to stay with the familiar and watch as others succeed and become ‘the successful’.

However, there are times when life gives you an opportunity. Opportunities are often referred to as times in life where you have the chance to become greater and to achieve greater things, to expand your horizons and to expand in every aspect of your life.

These days you might not have to fight against warriors on battlefields, but you do have to face your unconscious fears and unconscious mental blocks when on the quest for higher success. The metaphor of ‘burning the boats’ means that in this moment of truth you will have to decide between selling out and achieving success no matter what or reverting back into a life of destructive patterns and dissatisfaction. Ultimately, Alexander the Great is still known today because he burned his boats on his path to conquering greatness. Will you be known for burning your boat on your quest to success or will you sink into a life of mediocrity?

This is one of my favourite stories. I believe that you have to cut off every other option. I'm in a position now where I can never go back because I've gone too far in my mind.

I eventually just got to a point where I feel like I'm being drowned if I am not going toward my goals.
