I understand what you're saying, but with the bolded part of your quote I have serious doubts as to your true belief in your own product.

My friend who finished with a BS in EE says that each EE specializes in different areas and to build a hardware prototype, you typically require a team, people of different specialties, to combine knowledge in order to be able to build something. Some of the things you mentioned seem basic ideas that you could piece together but for complicated hardware, I presume you can't really do as a one man team? Also you didn't mention but I presume you weren't a student at MIT specifically?
The company I started in 2007 develops products like what you described and yes for something complex it takes a team each with a different specialty to get a fully funtioning beta unit. In my scenario it was hardware engineer that designed all the casing & mechanincs, an electrical engineer for the circuit boards, a software engineer and someone with a metalurgy background to determine strengths, thicknesses, types of metal vs plastic, etc. Keep in mind I'm not an engineer so some of my terminology may be wrong.

A single product on a shoestring budget was $1.5 million. At times I wish we just made cheap 50 cent widgets and sold them at $5.00. Point is, you are correct. For something more complex it will take both a team and money.

Anyone need any questions answered about inventions or intellectual property I'd be glad to help.

Hey ive used this site to ask questions on getting a llc for my primary business..u can find me in the "start up" section..so i figure ill ring this site like a shammy.

im 21 and my dad is 42 and my dad owns a roofing business. the invention is my dads idea and naturally its involved with roofing. im focused on starting my primary business but i feel this idea my dad has has potential for sucsess.

this idea is a new piece of roofing material manufacured by no one and instead of selling the idea my dad want to make his own warhouse manufacturing this product.

my dad has no patiance & is not a man of education...well neither am i but i have the will power to dig for info haha
any way...down and dirty question time

is it worth it to contact and use a patent attorney? or should i do my best to file it my self?

Legal zoom offers patent processes. is legal zoom worth it?

how much $$$ does it take to get a patent, from start to finish, that fits the above discription of my dads idea?

how much time does it take, from start to finish, to recieve a patent for that idea?

once i pay all fees and wait all the time that need be waited...am i free to go abou tlooking into manufacturing this product?

I have a question about how to sell a concept to a toy maker. This particular item is to aid in potty training. If someone could point me in a basic direction, I don't mind doing the research.
    Thanks
