Question An idea just hit me...

I am 15 years old, and earlier today, while talking on the phone, an idea hit me... I'm not going to say what, but one that I believe would greatly assist people, and that people would use. I have no idea on how to get started, and I need some help.

I think I should start researching the technology I would need to create this (I know it's around, and it's very common), and how I would go about setting it up. If I'm not mistaken, after I have done the research, I would need a business plan, correct?

I have no problem working hard on this, I just need some assistance on what path to take so I don't do anything that is unnecessary. Thanks guys, I know I can count on you.

I would say don't be so worried about saying what the idea is. The idea is only one part of it being successful, the level of success you have will be up to how well you execute it. You can't get good advice while keeping it secret, I have no idea what to give you as advice because I have no idea what you are trying to create.

If the idea is good and you put it into action, it would be copied straight away anyway. Your best option is to put the idea to people and get lots of feedback so you can see what people do and don't like. Maybe people will tell you they know of it already being done, or could give tips on things they would like added if they were buying it etc.

^+1 If your idea requires a developer, find a developer lol You have to put all the pieces into motion. For example, if you were to create an iPhone game and you have your brilliant idea, find an artist who could do some preliminary sketches for you. Then find a developer and give them the full description of every little single thing that happens. Get the artist and developer working on the project.

Otherwise I'm not sure what type of advice you'd be looking for.

Ideas are a dime a dozen, it's how you execute that matters. You'll have to share a little more in order to get a better answer on what to do next... is it a physical product? If so, high tech or low tech, what do you think it would cost to produce, and is it something that would work as an infomercial?

If it's not a physical product (software or a web service) what kind of technologies would be needed to develop it? Have you done any research to see if something similar to your idea is already out there?

5% is the plan, 95% is the execution

So many great ideas never get executed.

Kudos to you for working hard to bring an idea to fruition at such a young age. Whether you succeed or not, it will benefit you for a lifetime. About 12 years ago I made a commitment to myself to go ahead with an idea I had. I've been working for myself ever since.

    Don't overplan.

Just take one small step after another and you'll see things progress nicely.

    Good luck!
