A company that will develop your product

It's something called social product development.

    www.quirky.com

The company is called Quirky. What you do is introduce an idea, then you will see if the community likes the idea and if it does, you get votes and then Quirky will select your idea for you to research more about it - product name, product research, etc.

Then it goes a step further to pre-sale. Where a certain units like say 500 units needa be pre-bought so that the product goes to mass production and off to resellers.

UPDATE : sorry didn't see another post on supporting his idea on Quirky... Haha... Thought it would be great to share this site...

That is a pretty good idea. The $99 required to submit your concept, while seemingly annoying on the surface, is a relatively low cost that filters out people who really haven't put any time into their design. It also funds their capacity to research the ideas further.

After serious thinking about this, it's quite brilliant. You only need 1 product to go mainstream every year or so and everyone else to buy enough of the rest to justify their production.

Thanks for the link! I've dusted off my "inventions" binder and looking to see if there's anything worthy of Quirky!

Question about quirky: What's to stop someone on quirky from grabbing an idea and stealing it? Do they have any legal protection from this?

Why would someone with the capacity to produce a product in a few weeks be on quirky stealing ideas to compete against the quirky community to have "first to produce" protection... very few entrepreneurs are actually out there looking to steal ideas.
