    School Safety Site Needs Help

Hello, I am owner of a school safety site that needs help finding someone who can take it to the next level. I am a teacher and created a site that addresses school violence, bullying, drug use and many other issues that face our schools all across this country and world. My problem is I do not have the capital to bring it to market the way it needs to be. My partner and I both have full time jobs (me being a teacher).

What is disheartening is the fact that we contacted all our local and state officials and every single one of them say man that is a great idea but I think this person or this dept. will better suite your needs for funding purposes. Our overall goal was to try to provide it to school districts free of charge but we cannot get anyone to give us any kind of assistance to make it happen. What we have learned is these elected officials talk a great game to make themselves look good in front of a camera but none of them want to step forward and help be part of the solution. We have a tool that will make our schools a safer place. All we need is the right person to help or take it over. We are open to suggestions?

Have you tried talking to computer teachers to see if they may be able to use it in the classroom as part of a learning program?

What is the site I would love to check it out.

Why not invest a little of your own money from your jobs and try to get it in front of some media outlets (i.e. write a press release about it)

If you are having trouble giving away something for free unfortunately you are probably in for a long battle to get noticed.

Sounds like an awesome cause those so keep up the good fight!

    School SafetySite needs help

The link or the site name is Make My School Safe.com (makemyschoolsafe.com).
There is no question that the schools will use the site for free. but we have to pay our developer to upload the schools. We are not in a position where we can afford to lose money.

Here is a more detailed look at what Make My School Safe is designed to do and accomplish.

Make My School Safe .com Initiative

    What it is:
It is a web based 1st alert system that allows students to communicate with school officials (Guidance / Administration) through the use of any computer (or cell phone) with an internet connection to alert these individuals to dangerous behaviors: bullying, drug use or sales, abuse, potential school violence (school shootings), etc…

    Who will use it:
This software is designed for three groups:
Students that are currently enrolled in your particular school district
Administrators/Guidance counselors working in your district
Parents of students in the district (this will be an option)

When will this system be used:
In no way will it take the place of any existing program a district has in place. If anything, it will complement your programs by giving the students another tool to communicate their concerns. Many students are not comfortable voicing their concerns, needs, or fears face-to-face or even over the phone on a hotline. For one reason or another, kids lose themselves when sitting behind a computer. It takes away the personal aspect that comes along with talking on the phone or meeting with a person. This software will allow your students to make the initial contact without having to overcome that fear. Then it becomes much easier for the student to talk to school officials when they are viewed as being approached by administration through being called in or a pass sent for. Their peers then do not view them as being a snitch, narc, or being weak. This software is intended to be used by the students of your district when they are away from the school environment and comfortable in their own surroundings.

Why your school District needs this Software:
Safety…Safety is the number one priority that as a school district you have to provide to your students so they can focus on what your teachers are teaching and presenting. If students do not feel safe, you lose them. Kids are more open to express their feelings behind a computer in an environment where they feel safe from ridicule and persecution from their peers. You would be giving your students an additional tool that says we care and we are serious about your safety and well-being. You would be giving your school district a form of protection also, saying to the public that we provide our students with many different options when it comes to safety and reporting violence and potential violence. As a District you give our students all the tools available, and this tool meets the needs of the 21st century student.

Make My School Safe .com Initiative

    How the software would function:
As a student of a school district, you would type the domain name that is assigned to your school. Each school will be given a sub-domain that will be created specifically for each individual school. There will also be a directory to pick from on the main home page if a student would happen to forget the sub-domain. Once a student is on their school’s page, they would log in with Name and ID#. Once logged in, the student will be presented with a message title line and a message (concern) box. The student will be able to express their concerns and, what is a great feature to the school districts is the student will have to rank their concern from “very serious, needs immediate attention” to “very low and only needs to be looked into when Guidance has the time” (or phrasing to that effect). What is nice about this system is if there ever is a very serious concern and a student feels it needs to be addressed immediately, the most severe concerns will send a text alert to a phone number of the school districts choice. This way there is never a night, weekend, or holiday when a situation arises and the school is walking in uniformed the next day school is in session. Once a concern is initially submitted by a student, a message will pop up that the student has to check that they understand that each message sent will only be seen by guidance or administrators of their own school but will be addressed as if the student was sitting face-to-face with the person.

The only individuals that would have access to these concerns would be the people that are assigned by your Superintendent. This is what makes the site a safe and secure tool for your students to report their concerns. The designated people (most likely guidance) will have a login page with password that will allow only these individuals with proper clearances in place to have access to your schools concerns. There will be three ways the district is notified if there is a concern that needs to be addressed. One is by the officials logging in and viewing concerns, second is by an email alert that will be sent to whomever the district assigns, and third is a text alert sent to a phone number of the district’s choice. This way there is never a time when a school cannot respond or be ready for a situation that might affect them or their students. There will be a system in place where a message has to be cleared out saying it has been addressed, and when this is done, a green check mark will be placed by that message.

You are giving your students a tool to communicate with school administration and guidance through a network that most of them use on an everyday basis, “the Internet.”

You need all the help that you can get to promote and spread awareness of the value and goodness each schools might be getting out of your website/software. Suggest you to get back up and recognition from school district officials and politicians (and all possible media channels). This is by far I think the best and effective way to start.

Ask for help from the administrator of your school up to the parents...If you want this to be successful you cant do it by yourself..You should be helping each other for the betterment of the students.

I would be willing to help you. I'm currently finishing my Masters Degree in Information Security. I've also been bullied in the professional work environment, so this type of behavior extends into adulthood.
