How to value a website without income?

    Hi guys,

Does anyone have any information on how one goes about valuing a website without income?

For example, mine has just shy of 6k members, over 5k pageviews a day, PR 4 but NO income - so how do I put a price tag on it?

Sites like Cubestat don't give an accurate valuation in my opinion, are there any that do?

    Thanks

Google up "business brokers" in your area, call about 10 of them, and see if an have experience with online sites. They are basically like a realtor for your business, although they always throw out unreasonably high values at first. Then, after you sign on with them for your listing, they start devaluing your business down to "normal" prices. To find a "normal" price, you might have to talk to more than a few of them. The value is not something you can get from one phone call, so make sure and do your homework. Good luck!

Try online websait value calculators, some of them are giving you a very accurate estimate, like Web Site Value Calculator

Do a search what similar sites are selling in websitebroker.com, sitepoint, etc.

There is a formula on here somewhere that answers this question.

It is hard to sell sites with no income. You are basically selling it on potential. You so have value in your subscribers (as long as you have their email address and the list is less then 12 months old - from your oldest member).

I've helped people do valuations in the past. PM me your web address and I'll outline its value for you.

Don't use a broker.. they are to expensive
Don't use online calculators as they are all worthless

A site is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you want to get a good valuation put it up for auction with a high reserve price. See what people are willing to bid for it. That is the only way to see if it has value.

    PR4 = $300+
    5000 page views = $500+
6000 members = $600+ (if you have emails and they are new)
The missing piece of info is the domain. If it is a decent domain w/ good commercial intent and a dead on keyword for a niche industry you'll be able to use that as a multiplier.

Your at about $1400 now.. the domain would only raise the value. Of course income would make this more of a sure thing.

Lastly, does your site rank for any keywords? Organic rankings add significant value as well.

    Hi!

Thanks for such a detailed answer! The URL is Orangify - Orangify your news - social bookmarking, networking and free traffic!, however i'm not looking to sell just yet - probably in 2-3 months time (by then it should have a smalll amount of income too).

If it's ok, ill contact you nearer the time i'm looking to sell.

    Thanks

Decent site... decent domain.. no keyword relevance for a niche or product.

I would do some research to see what if anything your site is ranking for and then try to optimize for some organic rankings. You are also going to need to site your traffic sources. If this is all manual traffic based on marketing you are doing it will hurt your sale price. If this is all 100% natural organic traffic your price would go up.

Best of luck.. let me know if you need any help in the future

If you put google adsense on your site you will get a more accurate quotation on value, because they can then calculate the click through rate.

    Thanks for your answers!

I put google adsense on today, so far my CTR is 6.25%. Around 30% of my traffic is Organic - but i'll try some SEO on some of the higher ranking words.

    Thanks

WHAT!!! You would use Analytics to do that. Having Adsense on your site can actually hurt your PR and rankings.

People pay for traffic, although established earnings is also nice for additional proof.

You mention that 30% of your traffic is organic, so the remaining 70% is paid traffic? I'm confused.

Also, you gotta get rid of that chick drinking the juice. I think you asked for feedback on another thread, but that pic doesn't do anything for your site.

Hey, 30% is search Engine Organic traffic - We don't have paid traffic. The remaider is either direct, or referred - over 2 years we've built a loyal client base that just type in our URL, and there are websites (i.e social bookmarking lists websites) that have our URL and we get a few hits from those.

Oh and the woman is there because that's where one of our advertising banners go, just filling in the hole. I've lined up a couple of companies for advertising (Free) so that I can do some trials before monetizing.

You can value your own website even you don't have profit on it if you are the one who designed it and all the contents are came from you. There are some websites which are intend for business but for their own art of valuing it because it's their artistic output that they've been proud of.
