How do you gauge the value of a website

Is there a good place that tells you how much each website is worth? The sites I have found now are COMPLETELY off. Is there a general formula of any kind?

    -Alexa rank
    - daily / weekly / monthly traffic
    - What county is most of the traffic coming from?
    - Monthly revenue (you can usually sell your website at 10x your monthly revenue for example.. If your making $1,000 a month can you can EASILY sell your website for $10,000..
    - Is there a database? (forum etc)
    - Correct Seo? (offsite and onsite)

    No problem!!

    Hi elrange1,

One idea to find out its value is to list it on an auction site like Flippa. Make sure your reserve is high enough to where it only sales for a price you could let it go for (i.e. very high). See what interest comes in and how high the bids go and this will give you an idea and possibly a ball park figure on its value. This will also force you to put together a little sales presentation and to interact with active website buyer which will also help in your research and savvy. It's really hard to value websites without knowing a lot of very specific details so you would most likely have to elaborate on your specific site for us to help you in anyway.

In the end it boils down to this: It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I agree with HolySony. Also, most of the time websites are evaluated at a five year capital gain. So, whatever revenue the site is taking in x5 + any outside capital, networks and price of the audience.

has nothing to do with alexa rank, that is bogus, as alexa only takes into account other sites using it.

Has to do with consistent profits. How much money it is bringing in daily, weekly or most importantly monthly.

flippa sellers use this as a gauge sometimes. Work out what the site is making each month and then times that by 10 or so.

Are you guys crazy???? Multiple by 10???? I am experienced in this field and sell on Flippa all the time. My last site made $340 a month and it sold for $525. Nowhere near 10 times the income. A similar site sold for $950, so you see it just depends on the customers. I would say its all about who is searching to buy a website at the same time you are selling yours. You just have to get lucky, some people dont care and they blow their money on anything. I sold a website that made ZERO a month for $1,000. The guy really liked it and wanted it. It's just about luck and if people trust you. Honestly I have seen BUTT UGLY website sell for $1,000's.

There are several factors that can cause a website to rank well:

Pagerank: PR2+ can carry some value
Traffic: Organic search engine traffic is the most valuable
Revenue: The rule of thumbs is usually that a site is worth 12-18 months worth of monthly revenue in 1 lump sum
Graphics/Content: Quality design and content can carry their own value

I think this is the only reply I saw that I would take into consideration.
