My Girlfriend Wants To Start A Biz

She's thinking about starting an image consulting business, where she helps people dress and pick out the right outfits.

What do you all think about this business? Does it have potential? How would you price it?

I think it has excellent potential.

You can do hourly pricing as a consultant, fixed priced packages, or value based pricing. I would do market research to see what her competitors are charging. Also study their strengths & weaknesses to see how to position her business.

She might want to setup partnerships with hair & makeup stylists, as well as, business coaches...

    Need a business plan

Does your friend have a business plan? It will be her road map to success. My name is Steve Sanchez and I own a full range marketing and public relations firm out of Southern California. Our firm can help your friend create that long term road map and help her implement it too; we also have an associate who actually helps people write their business plan. If your friend would like to talk and see how our firm can help her, please have her email me at, SteveSanchez(at)HelpMyBizSOS(dot)com or visit our website at HelpMyBizSOS(dot)com.

    Thank you,

Big potential if you have a customer base and it you live in a fairly big city. You'll need great networking skills to pull it. The nice thing is you can start this part time on the weekends and if you can get a few clients then you'll be on your way.

Most of these consultants do not charge the customer. They instead make deals with certain stores and salons whereby the exchanges discounts for revenues.

Example: You make a deal with Mary's Salon for 20% off if you bring them X# of new customers a month. In exchange the salon give yous half of the discounted rate when the salon charges the customer the full rate (or some other equation like this). So you'll make 10% of the sales. You can then advertise your service as 'free'. This is much easier to sell.

    What city are you in?

Thanks for the advice. We just broke up, so it doesn't even matter anymore.

I would say it has "SOME" potential because there will always be people with the abundant life style who may want something like this

However if she plans on creating some success today. Then to become a student of necessity.

I can't see having a stylist pick out your close being something that the average guy/girl would want. There for it would have a much smaller market place.

.... just read that you broke up...

im not deleting this thats far more work :P

There are already companies like this.

One company that I know is successful and popular for Wallstreet people (my brother is an IBer and uses them) is Trunkclub.com.

I think this is what your GF is looking to do. Check them out.

It sounds like it has potential and I personally would price it fairly exclusively. There will likely be a lot of time sunk into getting to know the clientele and finding the right image and outfits to develop the image. This is not a $100 service... probably more like $1000-2500?

Tell her to start the business and ask her to hire a business mentor coach. That will help her to run the business with profit.
