    I couldn't agree more. Social networking sites especially with Twitter really have the ability to make something grow bigger than expected. It has helped my business a lot.

    It is not just the fan pages and adverts that are good but the ability to share information so easily. Having the social networking icons next to posts, web pages and promos is a real encouragement to your readers to pass them on.

    Social Networking sites, are definitely beneficial to any business, Online or OFF. HOWEVER, one must know how to use them adequately. One of the things I told my wife when she started her business was "If you are going to use social media sites, remember that the majority of the people there are there to socialize. If you keep your GOAL in mind, which is to build contacts and prospective clients. If you stick to that then you will not lose your objective, and get caught up in socializing." Needless to say, the social bug that she is, she has put it off until her blog is running smoothly and she moves on to expansion.

    From reading I can summarize that we all feel social networking is important. Now let me be honest for a bit...With all the outlets available for social networking I am feeling very overwhelmed and sometimes even defeated.
    I am reading Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn trust by Brogan and Smith. If you have some time I really recommend it...The only thing is that they make social networking seem so easy. Every time I put the book down I feel as though I should have a number 1 rated blog in a month!

    From my short experience I:
    Take each morning to read through 3-4 groups I am in;
    I set a goal (depending on the day) between 5-10 content filled responses;
    Try and blog at least once a week
    Try and update fan page once a week

    I keep things a little on low key, because the reality is that my product is not even available... Yes, I am THAT new. My blog talks about how I am starting my business and I give travel tips, so I don’t want to bombard people and have them be annoyed without even seeing my product yet.

    So what do you guys think? For us young ones...just starting a business...
    How do we tackle the job of social networking without having it run us down?

    Social media marketing is a critical component of Web 2.0 marketing, as it is a very low-cost promotional method out there that will easily give you large numbers of visitors, some of whom may come back to your website again and again. One thing you can do is invite staff and loyal customers to submit relevant photographs or videos and add catchy titles. These can then be sent as postcards to their friends and contacts, widening your customer circle.

    Well put, graphic designer. Person-to-person relationships are most important; social networking should augment the relationship, not define it
