I知 starting my own small private tutoring company tutoring in math and science.

I need people opinions on the following questions.

What do you look for when finding a tutor for your child?

What type of information would you like to be displayed on a website?

How much are you willing to pay for 60minutes of one to one tutoring in your own home?

If your child grades improves 5 points or higher in 8 hours of tutoring what would you think?

How do you feel about online tutoring?

What subject is the hardest for your child to pass?

    Thank you

For prices you should check to see what your competitors charge, Sylvan, Kumon, etc,. I suspect prices will vary significantly be region of country and locale: urban, rural, suburban.

You might also analyze their web sites to see how they advertise their services. This will guide the development of your site.

    Three sources for your keywords...

Look at your competitor's meta tags by viewing the source code of their pages. This lets you see how they are trying to position themselves for search ranking and you can figure out how to counteract this.

Do a keyword density analysis of their pages. There are several free tools online.

And of course use Google's keyword tool for additional suggestions.

    Best of luck,
    D

    Hi Rgvtutor,

Great idea for a business! I know Math and Science are two of the most difficult subjects for many kids. When I was a kid (ages and ages ago), Math was pretty easy but Science was definitely not my strong suit!

    To answer your questions...

What do you look for when finding a tutor for your child?
Someone who is personable, knowledgeable/experienced in the subjects, and SAFE. I want to know my kids are not going to be sitting side by side with a predator.

What type of information would you like to be displayed on a website?

Information on why I should choose you to teach my child. Interesting, engaging, content. Study tips would be great! Also, some tips on how I could help my child, whether it's creating a better studying environment, or tips on how to manage a frustrated kid, etc.

How much are you willing to pay for 60minutes of one to one tutoring in your own home?
It would definitely depend on how much your direct competitors are charging in your area. Less than someplace larger like Sylvan, and competitive with other in-home tutors with similar knowledge and experience. If you create a website that provides some valuable content and resources, you should be able to charge a bit more than some of your competitors.

If your child grades improves 5 points or higher in 8 hours of tutoring what would you think?
    Money well spent!

How do you feel about online tutoring?
Sounds good, but is it effective? I think its success would depend upon the individual child. Some children learn best with face-to-face interaction and guidance, while others may learn better "visually". If it's proven effective, I would be more likely to go the online route, especially if it sounds like it might work around my family's busy schedule.

What subject is the hardest for your child to pass?
    Math

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

    Hi,
The most important part for any online tutoring business is to have a great website. This niche is already very competitive and there are some very very large players. Just have a great website, Make sure that it is optimized for some highly targeted keywords. Once you keep this thing going, you are on roll.
