Question Combining being a woman, an entrepreneur, a mother and a wife.

My website follows entrepreneurs as they start their businesses through blog posts and video uploads. The intention is that people can use our site to learn from the experiences of others.

One of our entrepreneurs is a woman called Marcela who runs her business "Rico Mexican Kitchen" whilst also being a wife and a mother. She recently posted a blog about combining her working life with her personal life and the difficulties and guilt she is feeling in trying to do that, particularly when it comes to being away from her children.

You can view the blog at www dot inafishbowl dot co dot uk. She is Fishbowl Two.

I wondered if anyone else may have similar experiences or advice for people in Marcela's position? I'll pass on your advice to Marcela, or you can contact her via Twitter @fishbowltwo.

Yes its quite tough to manage the business and also family. However, there are many women who run their business successfully as well as manage their family quite well.

I agree, it's certainly not an impossibility. I know Marcela is struggling a little with guilt because she feels she is away from her family quite a lot and she doesn't want to disrupt them, but then she wants her business to do well so that she can better support them.

I work freelance from home so that I can be around when my kids get home from school and can manage the house plus my job.

Well that is the theory... the reality is that I work until my first kid gets home at 2.30 and then spend the rest of the afternoon with the other two as they get home. I combine supervising homework, preparing dinner, household chores with dashing over to the computer to deal with various things. I then need to pick up again once they are in bed. I get up early and work late.

    It's a long day...

I don't have kids of my own personally, but have seen Marcela struggle with time and more poignantly guilt at the thought of being away from her kids to help her business to thrive.

Sharona - your day sounds really long and tough! I guess that you get through it because you have to, but there must be times when you are just shattered and wish you didn't have to work!

You can keep on following Marcela's story on IN A FISHBOWL | Follow entrepreneurs as they make steps in their new businesses and follow her on Twitter at In A Fishbowl (fishbowlhq) on Twitter. I'm sure she'd love to chat to other "mumpreneurs".

On that subject, what do you think of the term "mumpreneur"? Is it a patronising label or a great way ton describe women who work around their children?
