Any female college students with their own business?

I've always known that I want to work for myself, and have been tossing around the idea of trying to start something while still any school.

Any ladies out there who have have been able to start up their own business (especially ones that are more retail focused) while still in school? How did you get started? My big concern is obviously the getting off the ground costs and being able to get financing...

    Anything helps though!

Well going online is definitely a smart way to start as start-up costs can be much lower. Have you considered doing drop shipping? Perhaps starting a blog, and getting a fanbase, then creating a retail store that ties in with your blog topics?

Well since your a woman it will definitely require some feedback from other females. I'm honestly not sure if you have it in you, being of the female sex and all.

    /sarcasm

Why must you include 'female'? Are all college entrepreneurs not facing the same problems??

As others have said I would definitely go for an online shop but first you need to come up with what you want to sell. It could be something home made that you like making. Just make sure there is a need for what you have to offer and that you can market it. Possibly make it geared toward your school. Then you can advertise with flyers at your school and your business can be more local (at first :] )

I think it's completely possible to start your own business while you're still in college. Now, truthfully, time should be a consideration. It takes time and effort to setup and to run a business, so think NOW about how much time you're willing to invest.

Off the ground costs are big in retail, so you might just want to start with selling what you can to friends and then see what the demand is. Once you begin to notice that you're running out of time to support your business in that way, then it's time to start thinking bigger!

I've read a lot about college students starting a business while in school. A really awesome resource I recently discovered is Under30CEO at Young Entrepreneurs Building Better Businesses - Under30CEO. Hopefully this info helps out, I love this site, really great information, feedback from startup ceos, young entrepreneurs, etc.

I am a college student and have a couple businesses. Web businesses are the easiest to start with relatively low startup costs and flexibility. Stay focused and keep your goals in sight, no matter how often you may get discouraged. Good luck.

One more thing. To address your financing concerns, Google the word "startup funds" or "startup financing." There are a lot of great resources available to help startup companies get funding, including linking you with angel investors or venture capital firms. Try Go4funding.com, vFinance, and GoBigNetwork.

*raises hand*! I've had a bit of success, and just created an LLC for tax purposes this year.

For me, I started with being an internet affiliate, via amazon and the like, and I'm now moving to drop shipping some of the popular items I sell.

My highest recommendation is to learn internet marketing, you CAN definitely start a little passive income business while in college.

    hey

Well, I hav to say you can ABSOLUTELY do it! If I did it you can do it. I've managed to study double major, work on a 9-5 job and start my business. It takes alot of persistence and hard work, but you can do it. The key is: everyday do something to achieve your goal.

I have owned/operated a dog breeding business since I was 13 years old. It took me until about 2 years ago to be really successful (I'm now 20). But I now am at the place where I can reduce my advertising because my name is getting known and word of mouth advertising is doing very well for me.

Another thing I am currently doing is network marketing through a great company. I'm making enough to pay the bills at this point (been in it 4 months now). I love love LOVE it and I'm very excited to see what it holds for me. I'm hoping to build this business up so that I can have the financial freedom to achieve some of my big dreams, like being a world-renowned dog breeder/exhibitor.
