Is there a way I can see which threads that I have participated have received further replies, or do I have to manually check them each out???

You can set the option for thread subscription when you reply or post a new thread.

You can also go to User CP -> Edit Option -> Default Thread Subscription Mode to set the option for thread subscription. By default, it is set to no subscription.
