World War Three

I saw a couple folks talking about WW3 in the "future of humanity" thread and it got me wondering about what WW3 will be fought over. After a bit of thinking I came to the conclusion that if global warming continues (which it is bound to at least for a while) than WW3 will most definitely be fought over good ol H20...but this is just my idea and I'd like to hear some others. So, what do you guys think WW3 will be fought over?

I would have thought crude oil, but I might be wrong.

the u.s. has enough oil, they just want us to think there is not enough so they can make the most profit from it. Water can possibly be something we fight over in the future, but personally i think ww3 would be fought over religous veiws, in the middile east , they want god and they think by causing kaos they will get god, and obviously we do not want kaos and destruction

We have about 40 years of crude oil left. When you put that into perspective that's NOTHING. We are constantly consuming more and more petroleum per day every second. New plastic goods (made of petroleum), water bottles, driving cars, ships, airplanes. In no way are we declining our dependency on fuel. 40 years to transform every industry from oil dependent to clean and operating on an alternative fuel. Hydrogen is the dumbest idea ever. It takes burning fossil fuels to make hydrogen. WHAT DO WE GAIN?? Nothin. Yes, Colorado is full of oil shale, oil in the form of sand that is pure, and easy to "harvest", but we are already tapping into that. What we need is time, time to create an entirely new industry to power our future vehicles, as well as a new energy source.

I do agree on religion as being a cause of WWIII. Religion has been an underlying cause for many if not all wars, and genocides. Lets not forget the Armenian Genocide, in 1915, when 1.5 MILLION Armenians were slaughtered. They were taken from their houses and made to walk to their graves through the desert barefoot for weeks on end, thrown off cliffs, and starved. Religion has caused horrible incidences, who said it can't cause another war?

well that gives us to 40 years to produce another type of fuel for vehicles and other transportation. They already have other means of fuel but they are not perfected yet, 40 years should do the job, i strongly believe that ww3 will be becuase of religion.

What other means of fuel do we have? Most alternative fuels require fuel somewhere in their making.

water possibly? combustion can easly get a car to go, toyotas already working on it, solar vehicles?, electirc cars?, they are out there. you are just limited to the abilty and performence of the car and in 40 years they should have perfected it

Maybe they can perfect an electric car, or a solar car, but the electric car will get most of its electricity from burning fossil fuels. Even if we manage to find a way to perfect a new fuel source completely independent on oil, do you think we can distribute it and replace 90% of our fuel dependent vehicles, manufacturing plants, aircraft, ships, gas lines, everything in 40 years?

Hmm, WW3? I don't think it's started just yet, doomsdayer

Although many countries are involved - it's not a war against a defined enemy. Okay, the war on terror - but terrorists are not an organized government agency; they're radicals/rebels.

WW3 = religion. How many times can Iran threaten Israel because of their beliefs? How many wars are fought, and are still being fought, for religion? In the history of the world, to the far reaches of humanity - wars have been fought for religious reasons. Why can't I believe in my God and they believe in theirs? Know what I mean?

I'm in the military and the only thing I want is peace. If I have to go and tag someone so my children never have to answer that call, and so you fine people can run your businesses, then so be it - I have no hesitation. The point being -- we wouldn't be over there right now if we weren't attacked. And WW3 - I give it ~4yrs before it starts. Sooner maybe. I think we'll be in Iran sooner than later. But hey - Russia surprised me. Who knows. I could go on for days about this.

But on the topic, I feel that none of these reasons will cause WWIII. I believe that as more countries develop or get their hands on nuclear weapons that the US will get scared and attack them, then their allies will attack us, then us and our allies will attack everyone attacking us, etc. etc. etc. Should last about 2 and half minutes then the world will be completely demolished.
