Who here is a REAL entrepreneur?

Don't get the wrong impression by my thread. I'm just curious to know who here is a REAL entrepreneur. For example, who has a business that makes real money, not just making a few bucks a day off the adsense on your web page. I would really like to know this.

    Hey Big One,

I suppose I am. I have been running a very successful catering business for the last two and a half years throughout university. For those of you interested I highly recommend the business, it can be very profitable if you do it right. More info on my catering company at www.thefooddudes.com for those who are interested.

It's not like the money made from AdSense is monopoly money, it is real money too. Some people make big bucks.

Right, but if you read my post correctly, I said A FEW bucks a day. If you make good money then mention it to me.

You don't necessary have to be making big profits to be classed as a 'real entrepreneur'. So many entrepreneurs 'make it big' and then abuse the business and waste away the money and can end up bankrupt, I would still class them as real entrepreneurs despite losing everything.

I make what I class as OK profits but Im not rich - but then again I feel that I have the ability so that one day I will be wealthy, so does that mean I am not an entrepreneur yet?

I don't see how this thread helps the community any in fact it is belittling to anyone who has not gotten their break yet.

We are all here to learn...what are your accomplishments?

I make a living off of my projects and I still find this offensive. Would it not be better to concentrate your efforts of assisting the young pups instead of belittling them?

I think that would have improved you exposure, credibility, and made you feel just alittle better about yourself.

I run a graphic/web/cad/3d design company with my partner and yes, the business is an actual one. It makes real money, but my goal is to always start something on the side for residual income from the web while continuing in the design biz.

Don't get me wrong guys, i'm not trying to belittle anyone. I'm just curious to see who actually has a business that makes money. Not just a website that makes a few bucks off of ads, affiliates, or ebooks. I don't consider having a blog a business. I wan't to see who is acutally trying to start a business.

I personally do not own a business. I am an investor in oil wells and thats how I make my profits. I guess you could call it a business but its more of a passive income. Though I do go out to my wells about once every two months or so.

    I get it.

TheBIGOne is not trying to belittle anyone - he's simply trying to separate the adsense folks looking to supplement their income versus those who are trying to push forward with actual organizations (groups of people that are focused on the development and delivery of specific products and services).

Adsense while being a source of income - is not an organization nor is it a focused business.

BIG is looking for entrepreneurs who aren't looking to base their income on affiliate advertising programs.

BIG - to answer your question - my partner and I are, however we're kind of at a "we're stuck" point. We realize with negotiations, it'll cost about $40K to get our idea off the ground - this does not include marketing or reoccurring expenses. We've tailored the concept as much as possble - determining which items and features are necessary for golive and which can be postponed and developed post launch. And $40K is as low as we can get it. So now we're going through the 'funding' dance - talking with friends and family members to hopefully get access to some interested investors.

We are however in talks with Michael Arrington of Tech Crunch. We're trying to arrange a meeting to discuss further. I'll keep you posted.

    HyperSensitive entrepreneur alert.

Or maybe you misinterpreted his post, seeing as it is difficult to discern tone and mood on the internet.

Maybe BIG is simply looking to discuss options with those who are focused on a) formidable businesses (not ideas in the making, or people looking to collaborate with those who already have ideas)
    b) not focused on affiliate advertising revenue (adsense etc)
    c) delivering a product or service to customers

And its hard to find that because many of those who post here ARE focused on passive sources of income through affiliate advertising. THERE is NOTHING wrong with that, it just isn't very helpful for those folks who are trying to create income through other products and services.
