    Which One?

If you had to start a business which would you rather do:

    a) Get into a business which sells a great consumer product, but doesn't pay its employees well (due to a low-margin product)?

    b) Get into a business with good employment opportunities, but sell a mediocre product?

Assume they both make the same amount of profit (for you the owner).

create a business that has both... a quality product that i stand behind and can afford to pay employees

if employees are underpaid and feel under valued they wont promote/sell a product well even if it was the best one in the world...

the first option..bigger overhead is not a favorable criteria for opportunity selection

ideally, you'd want everyone working on commission basis

it's a startup after all...the major remuneration component is equity/options...if people want salaries they can go work for IBM...if they want other benefits, they join startups

it's fucking stupid to try and make your startup like ibm

I agree with akula. Employees of a startup business need to realize that they won't make great salaries, until after the business is going for awhile. They could consider it almost like a profit sharing endeavor.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about getting a job here.
