What motivates you?
To all entrepreneurs,
I'm fairly new to this site, but I would like to throw out a topic that could possibly get us in touch with our entrepreneurial spirit.
What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?
My grandfather, an entrepreneur that I admire, told me the story of why he wanted to start his own company. He grew up poor and he saw his mother and father working endlessly to make ends meet. So what he did was set a goal for himself, "When I grow up, I want to work less than everyone else and make twice as much as them." He eventually went on to make that dream a reality and retired at 45!!
Hearing these types of entrepreneur stories really gets me motivated to start my own company.
So what motivates you? What drives your entrepreneurial spirit?

I just know in my heart of hearts that I wasn't designed to pay bills and live pay check to pay check. Don't get me wrong though. We are designed to work. I just choose to work on my hunting, fishing and camping skills. I also choose to work on my thoughts. You don't get any thing you want only things you picture.

It's really hard to find motivation sometimes. Being no stranger to the work force and wanting to work for yourself rather than someone else would have to be the biggest motivator.
Of all the work I have done without a doubt building site work would have to be the toughest. However the job satisfaction with this work is great, looking back at something you have done or helped do.

Good question!
There are a number of things that motivate me to be an entrepreneur. I hated having to answer to someone and having them tell me when I "can" and "can't" take a day off or go on vacation. I like to be in control and do what I want when I want. Being able to spend as much time with my wife and kids as possible. Being able to give back and help other people, both by having the financial resources and the time to volunteer. I also don't like worrying about money. No matter who tells you that a job is "safe and secure", you never know when your job could come to an end. You are the only one you can trust with your financial future.

I could care a less about money . Ill eat outta a garbage can if i have to .
Main motivation for me is putting others outta business . I enjoy terrorizing others bullying them and destroying them .
I will sell for a loss to do it . I love giving the consumer a good deal and making the other person look bad .

What motivates me? I think it would be my family. I want to be able to provide them with all their needs, thus making me strive for more and excellence.

I think im just "different" - I don't work the way other people do, so its hard for me to work for other people. I don't want to feel trapped - I want to make my own rules.

I think the possibility to add income to our family budget would be a good motivator.

What keeps me motivated is doing what others around you say can't be done, living the type of lifestyle that I vision, doing the type I work I love to do. They say do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. Once you've experienced the freedom of having your own business and controling your own destiny. It's hard to go back to the rat race no matter what challenges you are confronted with running your own business.

Philanthropy
I'm motivated by the fact that everyone living in western culture has such a great opportunity to help those less fortunate than themselves. The thought that if you ever hit the jackpot big time, you could use your money/power/position to save literally thousands of lives of people less fortunate than ourselves.
Innovation / Freedom
Whether you run a business or are even an intrepreneur, if your in an industry that you're passionate about, you can have great opportunities to push the boundaries and to be innovative. I'm a long way away from anything innovative at the moment, but having the freedom do determine where your line of work goes is a huge benefit.
Wealth Factor
Very much not the case! If I wanted to have financial security, I'd be working a 60k/year job and slowly building a property portfolio! .... That's about the most stress-free way I can think about earning money.... On the other hand, always owing the bank heaps of money and never knowing when you're going to get paid, not the most peaceful thing I've ever done! .... Hopefully one day though!

Entrepreneurship motivates me as working together with a team is something that benefits much rather working alone

I think just to do my own thing...to contribute something that was unique that would put my own "personal stamp" on "this place" Now that I am diagnosed with advanced cancer I realize that has become even more important to me and I am glad I have reached my goal.
It does not matter if it's an invention or the best pizza store in the neighborhood that nobody will forget. I think it's all the same to me...except some get lucky with a bigger idea.
Right before I was diagnosed I said on the Discovery Channel that my drive was to contribute something to society. I guess that is the best entrepreneural spirit you can have. The great entrepreneural legends never did it for the money, but something much more...
