You have a pretty extensive list of motivational books. How have these books helped you in your business career? Have reading these books helped you achieve new levels of success in your professional career or with your business?

All the books I read, I have learn stuff that I never could image in my life. I learn stuff that the school system never taught me and heard the truth that hurted me, but gave me strenght enough go out there and fight for the truth. My mind totally changed and I enjoy being the minority instead of the masses. After reading most of the book you'll realize that successfully people have most thing in common. I achieved a lot and is successful, but the most important is to achieve my dreams and goals with every fiber of my body that God have given me.

i prefer to read fiction, although i am starting to pickup and slowly read some motivational/business books. My dad is obsessed with those types of books. I just figure they dont contain knowledge, and I dont want to be preached to.

There are some good business fiction books around too. I normally don't like fiction much, but these I liked:

    Rigged - Ben Mezrich

    The Chairman - Stephen Frey

    The Protege - Stephen Frey

The Power Broker - Stephen Frey

    The Successor - Stephen Frey

The Fourth Order - Stephen Frey

The Vulture Fund - Stephen Frey

pboychuk that good that you are reading since most people don't read. It's better to read than not read at all. Just one question comes to mind is that is the fiction book going to further you in your life? Which one more important being comfortable or living a life of purpose? It's all choice.

Hmm, i read purely for enjoyment, same reason as someone would watch TV. I just have this thing agaist books like "I did it, so can you!", i guess the cliche motivational books. I am actually reading one of the rich dad poor dad books now, it shares a little knowledge beyond motivational repetition. But, when I pick out a "learning" book. I would rather it be a manual than a sermon.

I think many of you have to start getting over reading motivational books and start reading books that have substance that will teach you how to start or run your business better. After reading 2, 5, or 10 motivational books, how much more motivation do you need?

Why not read books that you will actually learn hard skills from. Even biographies have important lessons in them from personal experience. Now that you have the motivation and have read about "skills" to talk and sell to people, why not develop skills in other areas of business development. There is a lot more to running a business than having the "right mindset." I just don't see the value in reading a dozen motivational books.

That is exactly how I feel. Infact I hate motivational books because they are like reading a suspense book that is only suspense no revelation. So when i decide to start a new business maybe I would read a book about how to run this specific business, and then a book on how to manage/hire employees. But, jimbo telling me he ate ramen for two years and got lucky doesnt help me run my business.

Think Big and Kick Ass was a great read for me in terms of motivation. Also, What Color is Your Parachute is great if you're looking for a job.
