What is the deal with this "TEAM" thing?

It seems like everywhere I turn in my city now, somebody that I sort of know is trying to get me to come to these TEAM meetings. People I used to go to school with and even a woman that works at the insurance company where I have my house and auto insurance from are into this. I went to a meeting once and had a co-worker give me a book and some audio tapes to listen to but I never got interested. It seems to me all they do is try to sell crap and get other people to join. Is anybody a part of this thing? I did meet some Doug guy who was pretty cool but even he didn't get me interested.

probably an mlm. they are not for everybody. you really have to believe in the product to join. sometimes they get people who are only in it for the "quick buck" and taint the industry but if you do research on it you will find the better companies stand out.
