Its all mindset

Its all about changing addictions. Addictions are defined as things we CANT help. If someone wants to start a business but just CANT. This means they are addicted to something that is preventing them from doing so. Which is the reason so many people talk talk talk but yet they haven't even put a pen to paper to write about two sentences which takes a matter of seconds into the business plan. Attack and eliminate your addiction to fear driven addictions and you will be able to start a business or do your dream.

Basically as long as you are addicted to "being accepted by others", "addicted to living a always level standard of living", "to inertia", "to what your girlfriend or friends think", "safety", "emotional levelness/sameness", "fantasy over reality"

You've gotta realize that you're gonna have to rough it to break these addictions. Withdrawal is pain, but without pain and sacrifice we'd have NOTHING great in this world. Get used to being uncomfortable and push outside your comfort zone. These all must be dropped or like people i know that haven't even touched a business plan yet that have free time like you and me. (although they'll reason they dont have the time) You won't even be able to get involved in the process of starting a business for 5 minutes. Replace it with a new addiction for the persuit of passion, improvement, novelty etc.

To change your mindset you must constantly reinforce your mind. I'd suggest printing out text saying "start a business" "I am starting a business" everywhere you exist. On your notebook, fridge, bedroom, car etc TAPE it everywhere. It must permeate your subconscious mind.

anyways that's my two cents

Great reflection.....

Right now those so called "addictions" are holding me back from giving my 110% into my startup busines....

I really need to get the monkey off my back...

As I see it, the biggest struggle young entrepreneurs face is taking the practical steps to make a grand idea happen in the future.

Steps to make things happen:

1. Write down a to-do list of practical steps that must be accomplished for the business to get off the ground. Attack the list items one-by-one rather than as one giant undertaking.

2. Seek feedback: both positive and negative. The ability to turn all criticism into productive, business-helping ideas is key. You must realize that some people tend to only see the dark side of everything and some people only see the bright side. Have faith in your idea and take everything with a grain of salt.

3. $$$$. One of the steps on your to-do list should be an estimated amount of money that you will need. Set realistic monthly financial savings goals and record your progress on paper. Realize that you may have to wash cars or sell lemonade to achieve your goals some months.

4. Set a timeline for start-up and, again, track your progress on paper.

5. Work diligently on a marketing plan. Seek feedback on this step also.

6. Don't be afraid of failure. If you finish your to-do list, receive feedback, raise the money, market the heck out of it, start the business....and it still flops, you have just earned some valuable experience to put on a resume and have some awesome talking points for a job interview.

for all of you who dont have the money, just think small and grow big. i am 17 years old and used my own money for every venture so far and i have started quite a few businesses. i always start small and always aimed on taking my business big. microsoft, hp, dell, they all aimed small, and grew big. tho, i have never "made" it big myself.

This thread seems to be taking off

There seems to be alot of "wisdom" floating around on the thread what about some cold hard steps.

Lets give our takes on HOW TO:

Build capital from scratch
Brainstorm new business ideas
Write a business plan
Hire employee's

There are those that have "done" and those that will "do"

I would like to hear from the "DONE'S" on what to "DO"

For instance there are lots of us on here with ideas, goals, plans, and support. Just no real money. How should someone go about raising capital, what are the steps along the way from say $100 all the way to $50,000?
