Anybody can build a basic website with just a pc dreamweaver and paint. Making good ones you need to sell mate. You also need to be able to offer good scripting if they want something different. Basic website just isn't enough for businesses and I actually get turned away by some sites with really bad designs.

You would definitely be surprise at the amount of actual successful business people that do not have any computer skills, let alone web design skills. As i acknowledge that a badly designed website can not bring the results as a well designed one, any website that gets a companies message, products, services, etc, out there (assuming the information is correct and useful) is helpful. And besides, sometimes less is more.

Not ANYONE can build a website, opps I meant - not everyone WANTS to build their website. It takes tons of time to do and update, plus people generally are not internet geeks and neither do they dream to be. People have careers, professions, families, and a life - many of which don't include being their own "webmaster".

There are unlimited types of websites, many of which people WANT to outsource the creation of to a webmaster or web designer.

From large corporate sites to small blogs and personal family sites, many types of sites will always exist.

Generating any revenue (as a site builder/business owner) depends on the ability of the business to "sell it's services".

I can do fine building a site on Yahoo using Yahoo SiteBuilder, I think anyone can if they WANT to learn that skill; but to tell you the truth if I was looking to generate leads and revenue from my website, then I would hire a web-designer that not only ( 1 ) has experience in designing good websites but ( 2 ) also has the ability to generate (market) traffic and sales to my website.

( A ) Again, the ability of most any business to generate revenue is strictly limited to the ability to "sell it's services".

( B ) Sales skills and success generally depend on "experience in the industry" - experience & track records in sales & marketing.

I had a cracking website to show you. Where when I looked at it I thought it was done in 10 mins. I went on it yesterday. Then onto another site selling the same things at the same price. Guess which one I bought from.

A website is your business face. If it looks plain and boring, your business will suffer. But if your a new business and you hire somebody and he does an absolute cracking job. You will get more visitors.

I know that not everybody wants to design their own site. But the market for web designers is really big and if you want to push in there. Using words like basic. Wont help.

I did not mean to annoy anybody by the way I worded my post. I was actually aiming to help by making stacy realize.
