    Want money? Auction THIS off!

22-year-old auctions off virginity at Lyon County brothel | www.rgj.com | Reno Gazette-Journal

Too bad you can only sell it once. It's a publicity stunt on the part of a local brothel owner in western Nevada, and it worked. In 2002 a recent high school grad-male-tried selling his virginity on Ebay, and bids reached $10 million before the auction site caught on.

    Wow nice publicity

    So this isn't true???

Apparently this time it's for real. The article says that Dennis Hof, the owner of 3 or 4 brothels clustered in the small town of Mound House just inside the Lyon-Carson county line, tried to get Ebay involved, but they turned him down. A local TV station is reporting that Howard Stern will do a live broadcast from Mound House, and direct listeners to the brothel website where bids will be accepted. (The town's name, by the way, refers to the rammed-earth houses that the first white settlers built during the 1860s, since they lacked wood for building. The place is at the bottom of the grade leading up to Virginia City.)

Geez.... that's pretty awful if you really think about it. It feels like our culture is going downhill somtimes.

I saw the picture of her, I can't believe people would actually pay that kind of money to sex this girl.

Considering that prostitution is the world's oldest profession, I don't see how our culture is going downhill just because someone's made a press release about it.
Hell, there's a brothel in my city that's listed on the stock exchange!

It is really interesting, she (Natalie) has a purpose to do that; she wants to pay all her debts made by her stepfather. Yet, her sister (Aria) will follow her track.

So I think this is not about right or wrong and morality stuff, this is about reaching her goal by doing anymeans necessary. However, it is a pity.

    Harvey you have a point.

But, nonetheless, it is still pretty pitiful isn't it?

The article says shes doing this as a one time thing... but I have a hunch. 10 bucks says the girl ends up working for the brothel in the end...lol

I doubt it. The drop out rate in the sex industry is pretty damn high.
I've spoken with a LOT of strippers and prostitutes because I used to work in a bar in the red light district of Brisbane ages ago. Anyway, there's this group in Australia called the Eros Association that does a lot of work in the sex industry to try to get it cleaned up, regulated, demystified, etc etc.
According to their stats, lots of the girls can't hack it, and the drop out rate was something like 70% after the first time and up to 90% after the first week, for both professions.
So I'd say it's probably she's unlikely to do this again.

And getting back to the point, I don't think it's all that pitiful, really.
People trade for sex all the time. They just don't do it with money. Ever been on a few dates where you know it's not going to work out, but you end up having sex anyway? How's it so different when you look back and realise you paid for all the meals and movies?

Personally, I think the whole issue is that people have massive Freudian hangups about how sex should be special.
It's a pleasurable biological function, nothing more.
It's just more pleasurable with someone you actually love... but love's just the warm fuzziness we like to wrap around the chemical traps of pheromones and neurotransmitters. Oh, and I say this as someone that's been in the same relationship for over 8 years now.

I hate to sound like the cynical one here, but my money is on her not being a virgin. I say go for the old presenting the sheets thing, if those sheets are clean the buyer didn't get his money's worth.

Yes, yes, I have seen the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" as well, and I understand that it's written with help of the American Geisha, but that story is quite romanticized, frankly.

This is all in very bad taste anyhow. In this day and age we have nothing better to do than find fascination in the story of a girl selling off her virginity? This is like the days ahead of September 11th, when the news of the day was what happened to the intern from Modesto...
Conservative opinions from someone who thinks a little differently than most.
