Thrift Store Worker Finds $30,000 and returns it!!

    (03-09) 03:13 PDT Pomona, Calif. (AP) --

A thrift store worker in Southern California says she didn't think twice about returning $30,000 she found in donated clothing.

Barbarita Nunez was sorting clothes on Tuesday at the Veterans Thrift Store when she found a small box. Inside was an envelope of cash. Nunez said at first she thought the money was fake. But just in case, she gave it to her supervisor.

The money turned out to belong to a woman who had recently died. It was returned to her family, who gave Nunez a cash reward.

Nunez said she will send some of the reward to Mexico so her mother can have an eye operation and will use the rest to buy a digital camera.

This is cash money were are talking about. Certainly she could have snagged it up, but she did the honest thing and gave it back to the family. Good for her, that's a great and wonderful thing. That the family gave her some of that money back will pay for her mother's eye surgery is the blessing that I am sure she'd been paying for, so it looks like a win win all around.

Here's the deal. That family has no doubt been contacted by the IRS, because there are taxes on money, assets, estates, and other terms describing wealth, that are imposed after death. The federal government is greedy and jealous, it wants it's share. If if were me, and I knew I could return that money quietly, I would have. Then, had that family wanted to hide that money from the IRS it would have been their choice.

As far as the family giving her an amount of money as a reward, money given as a gift up to 10 thousand is not taxable, unless that's changed.
