    The uphill battle of entrepreneurism...

I have decided to take some of my valuable time to express my frustration with this whole entrepreneur situation.

I am 24 and have spent the last 5 years working solid on several ideas with web development and programming. It is inevitable that my determination with see through eventually but I am frustrated at the unnecessary challenges that arise that are quite frankly pathetic.
I have been doing very well for the last 6 months considering I am working from my living room in a family environment, although I am not confident enough in this climate to rent out an office at the rates they currently are.
My production in my business and development would increase ten fold although at this moment in time with all the tax and expenses, I can not take that risk. I have looked into offices, and their rates and contracts are just something that I can not commit to.

I have a suggestion to the government or anyone in the position of making a difference. Instead of worrying about motivating these future entrepreneurs, focus more on the motivated ones, who would benefit more from the help. I have tried the jobcentre and HMRC for grants or benefits that may increase my confidence to get office space, but both were reluctant to help.

I have the potential and plan to build a business as big as Facebook, Twitter and Google right in the UK from my living room, with a decreased and limited amount of productivity.

Startup Britain.. We will see. I will do my best to take advantage of the support but as of yet, I have seen nothing that is not available on the gov website for starting business.

Welcome to YE so what part of the UK are you from, you mention about renting office space but what size are you looking for,i guess it all depends on the location really as in the current economic climate i would have thought the prices to rent a office must be low.Just a thought could you not post a advert in the local newspaper looking to share a office or prehaps even someone with a office that currently too big for them so they could share some space with you.

I need an office that is simply big enough for 1 person. I am from Birmingham and have not tried posting an advert for sharing.
My problem is that business is ok for now, although if it was to decline I would be left with the commitment of office fees.

I am forced to continue working from home.

I understand your frustration. Being someone who is motivated, it seems like the MORE fortunate and LESS deserving ones are the ones who get all the breaks. I've wanted to rent out an office for my own business for quite a while now and just can't financially take the leap yet. Keep on plodding away. Hopefully things will work out for us good guys.

I understand the frustration. I have been saving and searching for years, but still can't seem to get anywhere. I recently found a business, and actually have the money to purchase, but don't have the funds to support operating expenses until it starts turning a profit. With the economy being the way it is, no banks want to give out loans, which is a killer for small business. I wonder if a group of entraprenuers could get together and form a sort of credit union. It would be easier to, for instance, purchase an office or whole business. I don't know, just a thought, seems like there has to be a way to make it easier, if we could get more motivated people into business, the economy would get better. Lord knows the banks and government aren't going to help.
