Talking The most rediculous thing ever

Ok I need to vent to other smart minds.

I went aparment hunting today, because I moved over to a diff. city in florida. I get to this apartment complex and it's really nice. I was lovin it, price was right and it had all the accomedations.

There was a sign on the door that said you had to have a 650+ credit score to get in though. I was like ok no problem I can negotiate that by having a co-signer. Plus I can show proof of income that will substantiate.

We, my wife and I, start talking to the lady and she asks us how much we make. We tell her and she says "oh I'm sorry thats to high"....errr?

As nice as it was to hear that....it sucks because we really liked the place. The rent was only $799

So she shows us this flyer that says it is an restricted income community and together we would have to make less then $25k a year!

I said to her "So you're saying we would have to earn this little but have credit scores this high." (was talking with my hands) She says...yeah. (with a confused look on her face)

How likely is it that a married couple or anyone looking for a 3 bedroom place is going to make less then $25k a year and have credit scores of 650+? How do you live in the united states off of $25k a year? And still have great credit!!!

    Wacky...

wow crazy....so that means your spending 799 a month on rent, that is like half your income then at under 25k.

Welcome to being poor in the US. Something like 12% of the US population lives off of less than $20K a year (by the way, being broke and having good credit aren't mutually exclusive - they could be broke, on cash and not falling back on credit).

Aside from it being wacky, it's really unfortunate. :::shies away from the political debate:::

It just makes you wonder about a federal minimum wage of $5.15 an hour. Working "full time" (40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year = federal standard of 2080 hours), that equals $10,712 a year.

    Now THATS wacky.

    Thats what I was thinking.

I believe the minimum wage is now $6.75 at the moment (not completely sure though).

I understand the point of leasing the apartment to ppl who make less than 25k. It might be harder for them to get an apartment and they most likely have it worse than you so you should be glad you make more than the poverty line.

It's not like they do it out of the kindness of their heart. I am positive that the government probably matches the customers payment per house.

I guess its a nice business model though. Their low prices bring flocks of people I had to wait in line to see someone. (first time thats ever happened) They have a waiting list to get in, and they most likeyl make 30-50% of their income from uncle sam. It's alittle sad to see everything in america turning to focusing only on profits.

Everything is so tweaked to get the most profit possible that products and services, lose value to the customer.

Has anyone eaten at dunken donuts lately? Remember when the chocolate frosting used to drip off the sides? Now there is just a smear of watered down frosting on their donuts....this is just one example of profit tweaking and product losing value.

I understand they have share holders to please....I just thought the best way of doing that was to please the end-users.

In the past years I have really been wishing to live in another country...can someone tell me what its like in austrailia, UK, Norweigian, Asian countries...is the grass greener?

Dunkin Donuts is horrible. I rarely eat donuts but their bagels are pretty good.

The federal minimum wage is $5.15. What I mean to say was that the minimum wage in NY is $6.75.
The minimum wage in Kansas is $2.65. Thats somewhat hard to believe.
