Success - A milestone has been reached

Hello friends. A milestone has been reached in my blogging business. My first blog, The Men's Gift Guide turned one year old the other day. It's been a long year as I blog 100% by myself, but it has been satisfying.

For those of you who are trying to make a go at blogging, I can tell you from experience that the #1 secret is to just keep going. Longevity is the key to any online business. 99% of bloggers quit after a month or so. I had many months of absolutely no readers. It began to pick up the last few months, and I'm currently at almost 10k page views the past month (although Christmas has a lot to do with that)

Anyway, I invite all of you to stop by. I'm actually holding a Birthday Bash Give Away and have some prizes and such to give away. Check it out here.

congratulations! I agree there have been so many times where I have wanted to just give up for whatever reason, but I have really started to see the fruit of my effort over the last month of so.

Here is why you failed at blogging

    You failed at step 1!

You made one post and then gave up and did it 37 times? you would have started to see a result if you had made 37 posts on one blog.

I have been blogging for just over 3 months and have made almost 100 posts and I am only just starting to see some results from my effort.

It takes hard work to start anything, even a blog!

Congratulations man! I must say I checked out your blog and its totally cool. Thank you from preventing a lot of guys from receiving tasteless ties and horror of horrors, stuffed toys. Its a great idea! Youre saving humanity (and I bet a lot of relationships too.)

I hope I can follow your example soon!

The key is just to stick your chin up be proud and passionate about what you do. Don't fail to be humble if youre wrong. There are really some stupid commenters there but develop a hticj hide. At the end of the day, its still YOUR blog.

Hey congrats on the blog birthday and good luck to you in the future.

I am just starting my blog now. I am trying to create a post a day, and am using the ye blog system to mirror my blog. I am not doing any real promoting yet. Do you guys think that promotion is all that neccessary when starting out, or should I just focus on creating good content and getting natural viewers until I build up more content?

deep impression - I don't use the term, LOL. Mainly because I'm not a teen age girl. But thanks for the complements.

creadiv - Sounds like you've got it figured out. Good content and consistent articles are what will make you popular in the future. I didn't even put ads on my site until I was several months in and over 100 posts. Think about it this way, until you've got some good substantial stuff up on your blog, you've got nothing there to promote anyway.

When you guys say you are starting to make money from your blogs.. what figures are you talking? 10's, 100's, 1000's per month? How much time do you actually spend on the blog per day to see the returns?

For me, starting to make money means consistently making close to $10 a day. But I look at that as a solid beginning point (after a year!)

Consistency is what is important, not necessarily how much time you spend per day. I typically write one week's worth of posts all at once. So there may be several days where I don't really do anything with it.

consueent -- Great point there about consistency. What's also important, I think, is your passion to write and add more value to yourself and your readers. The money is just a side effect.

The number one reason why people fail in this business is that they give up too soon just before they start generating income. Just think of your current endeavor as your last straw and you'll do everything to provide quality service and market and attract consumers / buyers / readers / etc. At least I think that's the best way to go.

And how many hours a week do you need to put in to make $10 a day?
