Nearly every day I receive e-mail from people asking me how they can get more traffic to their website or improve their search engine ranking or get more inbound links. For the most part, these people are well-intentioned and truly want to learn how to do things the right way - and I applaud that. That being said, however well-intentioned they may be, these individuals are focusing on the wrong things.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying getting more traffic to your website or improving your search engine ranking or getting more inbound links aren't important, because they are. In fact, those things are vital to online marketing success.

However, you can get to where you want to go a lot easier if you focus on the right things. For instance, if you want more traffic and higher search engine rankings and more inbound links, don't focus on those things. You heard me right. Don't focus on those things. Instead focus on producing lots of quality, relevant content - the kind of irresistable, valuable and helpful content that people will tell others about and want to link to.

And produce it consistently.

If you do that, you will automatically increase traffic to your website and improve your search engine rankings. You will also get a lot more quality, relevant sites linking to you.

So why don't more people follow this simple but sage advice?

Because it's not sexy and it requires hard work, that's why. People want sexy and easy. That's just human nature. It's always been that way.

Admittedly, my advice isn't sexy or easy. It's hard, but it does work. I know this from first-hand experience. No, it won't happen overnight. And it will require some patience on your part.

But it will definitely happen for you as long as you stubbornly keep at it. I guarantee it!
