    Starting business ideas

    Hello,
I'm 17 years old and I'm a senior in high school. I want to start a business because entrepreneurship > minimum wage jobs. I want to start a business but don't really know what it's going to be. I was thinking about doing wholesales where I buy from suppliers then sell them on ebay or such for higher prices. Does anyone here have good ideas I could use for my business?

    thanks

I think you just have to try things and see how it goes, dude. To be honest, I (personally) would always keep a regular job and do a business on the side, because it can take a while before you actually see any profit. Especially with your first business. Even if you are making $7 an hour at 30 hrs/wk you've made 5,000 Bones in 6 months whereas you may work a lot of hours building a business from scratch and just make 2,000 in the first 6 months, but then make 1 mil the 2nd 6 months. It all depends. You may work a year and lose money... it happens.

Replace your first job with your business when you make more money doing it. Use your first job to fund your business at first. I'd research eBay (if thats what you want to do) and find things in the wholesale/bulk section and then look to see what they sell for, SELL for, not list for and see if you make any money. you can make a bit of money doing this, once you get several things going at the same time, but you have to do your research first. Watch auctions with that item and see if it sells and for what. Do this over a couple weeks and then you can make a good decision.

If you have a skill (computers, websites, trades, hair styling, etc) use it and do small jobs on the side to make some cash and see if you can make a business out of it. Just think of what you're good at and go for it, but don't be afraid to learn a new skill if you can make money doing it (and you enjoy it, of course).

I agree. To start off with you might want to look into ordering pallets of returned stock as this can be cheaper (lower MOQ). Or look for damaged stock that you can repair. Good luck.

It's taken me years to make profit on ebay just fyi. And I still make no where near to quit my day job. Finding sources is so hard especially with so many cheap chinese vendors swarmming everywhere.
