Spending a summer in the states

I don't know where to go but its definetly going to be West or East coast. Where do you recommend?

I'm a college student so I'll be working over there to earn a bit of money so I need to get a job and find some accomodation.

Please say where abouts on either coast you think I should go to. I was thinking of either Montauk or San Diego.

I voted East Coast. Reason? Your use of the word 'affordable'. There are places on the West Coast that are affordable, but they're in the boondocks. San Diego isn't too cheap.

My vote goes to East Coast, specifically NY. There's so much to do in the city and around. However, its not the cheapest place but you don't necessarily have to live in the city (Manhattan, Brooklyn)

San Diego, is an awesome place. But, just working at a restaurant or a store is not going to provide a good enough income to really enjoy yourself. But it is an awesome place, especially in the summer. New York is expensive as well, but you can find so much to do in the city and you can find a place to live and work. Although, you will find yourself working a lot in order to pay for the rent. But good luck, any how.

Thanks for the advice, not sure whether I'm going to do it or not. It kind of depends on how I do in my Christmas exams, if I do well, I'll be going away next year to either Babson, Emory or Fisher to study. But because I'll be going there in September, I mightn't work in the states and just go on a holiday. It all depends really.

By the way, I've been NYC before. Its something else alright. Too expensive to live in, plus I heard Montauk is supposed to be real nice I'm not sure if its in the Hamptons or the Hamptons is in Montauk. Excuse my ignorance!
