Space Travel

So Paul Allen's team launched there ship into space. What does that mean for the future of travel? What business opportunities does it open?

I'd say as of right now unless your pockets are VERY deep, it doesn't open many doors at all. It's exciting, nonetheless.

I wouldn't think that this presents any opportunities at all. How can someone capitalize on something so far out of reach?

Those websites that sell plots of land on the moon might get a boost out of this. Not from me, however.

Its actually a bigger step towards space exploration by private companies. Example:

Investors see this event, realize potential market for space travel. Create company, shares bought buy public. Space tourism takes off, soon companies from all ranges are taking part in the industry.

It's a good thing that a private company has decided to engage in space travel, so now its not exclusively in government control, like NASA. (Ironically, my avatar!) This will eventually expand business opportunities- maybe, at some point, a company will send their own rover to Mars or another planet for exploration.

This is a very interesting development- maybe we may get more information about what happens in space from private companies that explore in space than what we get from NASA.

Now, not to be too kiddy like, but I used to watch anime cartoons and they show how homes were created in outer space in huge places called 'colonies.' Each colony was in a ship like structure. Well anyways, with private companies exploring space, this may be a result from this... but this will be MANY years down the line.

For now, I believe it gives NASA a note saying 'competition'.

The possibilities for mineral exploration and exploitation are huge. I was reading that this comet that astronomers have been tracking has a core of diamond that's the size of Texas. Wow.

It's too bad that we probably won't see it happen in my lifetime, or in my children's lifetime, but it's amazing to watch the pace of technological development. Just when I thought that NASA would have the monopoly......

By the way, what's the deal with buying land on the moon? Really, who has the authority to sell it? I've also seen a few plots on Mars go up for sale. If you're thinking long-term (and I mean REALLY long term), it's a great idea. I just have to wonder about the legitimacy of it all.

If they managed to get hold of all those diamonds then the value of diamonds would fall dramatically

Well then at least buying a birthday present for your girlfriend would be cheap.

"Honey, I got you a diamond car! (for only $9.95)."

I better start saving my dollar bills for the future space tourism. Yipppee!

BTW, buying a piece of the moon gimmick, the ads make it sound so REAL! But who needs a piece of the "history" anyways.
