Hi I am trying to go for accounting in college.

my question is what is most valueable degress in accounting do you guy's think??

I was thinking to go for a bach or cpa = corperate, public, accounting.

I start in fall in college my first year, my counsilor, tranfered 9 credit's from my highschool i was in an eletronics program.

so I am taking a eletronics program at college so I could keep those credit's,
I took some accounting beginners, and also english and history.
    for my fall sem.

today I go for my orientation.

and make a final request for my classes.

classes starts in aug20th and I haven't paid for my classes becuse they won't let me until after my orientation.

I hope my classes are not full yet.

But I want to know what degree in accounting would get you lot's of money ,well most valueable, like a good pay and also alot of jobs with it , like a high demand for that degree.

    any ideas??

    Thanks for your time.

    Different things interest different people.
There are tax accountants, financial accountants, management accountants, and mixes in some way, shape, or form of all three.

If you want to work for an accounting firm (which most accountants start out in) you will need to know all the basics but especially in relation to financial accounting and tax accounting. You should pursue your CPA.
If you want to work more in a corporate setting, you should be more versed in financial and managerial accounting. You should consider pursuing your CPA along with a CMA or CFA after graduating.
If you would ultimately like to be the CFO of a company, you need to be very well-versed in financial, tax, and managerial accounting. You should consider going for your CPA, CMA, CFA, MBA and/or Masters of Accountancy.

IT all depends on what interests you. I think once you start taking some financial and managerial accounting classes, you will figure out quickly what interests you and what doesn't.

Have you worked in an accounting office? If not, do it, I WAS on my way to becoming a CA (i think the american is CPA). I have an great summer job before going for my last year of schooling, but have found that with my want to own my own business my education has been for the most part useless. If you want to go the entreprenurship route then go to a comunity college for finance or accounting. Believe me man, most accountants drive toyota camrys own a time share have 2.5 kids and clip cupons for fun, definatley not for me and I am glad to have my job mostly because now I wont waste time studying for my CA exams.

    Just a thought....

of all the degrees in business I think accounting is the most "safe" degree to get. You will make money but not more than say a Finance degree. You will have wonderful job security and it wont take you 6 months or more to find a job like it did me when you graduate! My friend just pased her CPA exam and she will make partner in her firm in 5 years. She is set up to make 250,000 a year when this happends. You can make money and you can learn all the skills us young entreprenures lack in terms of our budgets and accounting practices

well I haven't just right now starting college I am right now picking classses,

I have been mostly interested in computer, eletronic's tech, soon photonics.

I talked with my dad and told me to go for cpa, he talked to the ceo of GM since my dad worked in a top secreat facility in warren, michigan where they take part in testing and designing engines,so the ceo of GM would go their alot when they have somthing working, to show him designs and stuff, also some military projects were their too.

so my dad said to go for cpa accounting, to me how I look at it, if I don't get hired in as an accounting or anything, at least I could learn from it and use it if I build up my own business.

I really want to start some computer business down the road.

ya my dad said that I will find jobs easly, in accounting, my dad had no job for 1 year and he is an eletrical engineer.

my dad said that accounting would be good for me since I have computer backround, like I know c++ and php .

so I agreed, so sound's like going for a cpa is something good.

    Thanks for the replies.

Wow, the grammar and spelling in this was so bad, I don't understand half of what you wrote. Did you get into college already? I hope your essays weren't written like this.

Ha, yep, I am terrible, I have a few learning disabilities, and have a problem with both spelling and grammar, always have and always will, but luckaly I have a great proofreader and spend extra time on projects before handing them in to clean up spelling grammar scentence structure, believe me, when I am actually writing something that matters its allot cleaner than some random internet board.

hockey: The first couple years of college are mostly general education classes anyway. You have plenty of time to pick a specialty.
