Should Facebook be allowed in the work place?

Should it be banned from the work place? What is your take on this?

No, it should not be allowed. That site is nothing but a huge distraction. Anyone trying to say otherwise is full of crap.

It really depends on the role of the employee and whether or not the company is using Facebook as a marketing tool.

As many companies have now incorporated some form of marketing strategy that utiilizes social networking, the person(s) responsible for this aspect of the company should have access. After all, why use social networking and block the largest social network from the people responsible for implementing it?

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

A gun can be used for good to defend ourselves, but it can also be used to harm another person.

Facebook can be used for good, but if the user is easily distracted and just uses it to joke around, then it can just as easily be a bad thing.

Facebook shouldn't be allowed in the workplace. It distracts the employees. They tend to tinker on facebook than on their work.

absolutely though a exception could be made for marketing and sales professionals who could use it productively.

completely agree with you, if productivity at your work place is getting hampered because of FB then strict actions are the only option left.

I think i will agree to Mr.Perk Card and Mr.James that the situation differs from an organization to different organization. Because i have also seen such people who do maintain their company's Profile on the F.B and they think it is the best on-line marketing tool they have ever utilizes for promoting their businesses for sure. It also depends upon person -person as well. Because if a person is idle so then, he will remain idle either you forbid him to use the Face Book as well.

I concur. Unless your job in the workplace can be completed 100% while jumping on Facebook periodically throughout the day, then the two cannot coexist.
