Seeking Advice

I currently run an art exhibit that takes place 3 days a year every June. The last few years I have been making money with it, but I feel like I want to do more with it than just a 3 day a year event. People have told me to do it more than 3 days a year. Some people have said have the event 3 days a month. The problem is that there is so much planning that goes into it, between acquiring sponsors, booking special guests, advertising and promoting, not to mention the large costs involved with running this 3 day event. In order to do it right I really need the whole year to plan. For that reason I do not know how I would expand the event. I am wondering however if there is another component I can add onto a business like this that would still fall under the umbrella of this 3 day event. Since the website gets a good amount of hits maybe I can do something on my site? My question is: Do I work on ways to add more components to this or do I focus on making this 3 day event the biggest and best 3 days of the entire for year? In other words, here's my analogy: Do I focus on making a buffet or focus on one dish and make it the best dish anyone has ever eaten?

I have a grandparent who has been an artist and sculptor for many years. Go to Marie Barbera Fine Bronze Figurative Sculptor of Native Americans, Children, Wildlife and Equine subject matter to see her work. Since I was a kid, I have been to her shows, she does many throughout the southwest during the year.

The trick is the same as any other activity, have a plan and a method, then execute them repeatedly. I understand you use the whole year to plan for one event, but if you used the method for the one event to participate in other events, then all you need are ground travel logistics.

Also, put together a website. If the one annual show contains elements that are not easily replicated, then try to emulate them at the website and during your big show, and do something simple for the other shows.

Anything else would have to be discussed on a planning level, but those are a couple of ideas.

Hope this helps.

hello!!
nice.. Just my point of view, If people are telling you to hold more events it means your 3-day event was a blast, but your problem is you planned it the whole year right? why not try hold events 2x a year? slowly by slowly you are expanding, and if all comes out well, you can hold event every month but of course not that grand, you have to atleast keep 1 month in a year where people really expect to come over still even if on other months they'd been there..

"Do I focus on making a buffet or focus on one dish and make it the best dish anyone has ever eaten?" --- make a buffet, and still have that one best dish in a while...
